Wireless Charging

For those that didn’t get the wireless charging option with their new Tundra, here’s a great alternative and it works better then the one that comes in the wireless package!

I got the same one and put it in the storage organizer I bought off Amazon in the center console. Only issue is I’m always getting out of the truck and forgetting to grab my phone.

 

I put a similar on in my wife’s car about 6 months ago and she has been really happy with it.

Have any of you pulled the console apart and ran the charger. I’ve been busy and not able to get to it.

as any one check if it was posible to by the parts from toyota and to manualy installed the factory charger?

 

I think the big issue with this is the charger sucks and is extremely slow from what I've read. It's probably not worth the cost

 

ha that is sad... the one posted above does not look clean I found. witch I had no wire that would show. at the moment I'm charging with the USBC cable, look fast so far but I'd like a wireless charging. The one posted above is it magnet as well? probably not

 

Has anyone actually had good luck with the factory installed wireless charger? I've read nothing but bad reviews basically saying if you're playing music and/or using GPS, you'll burn more battery than you'll actually charge. I know wireless chargers usually charge at a slower rate but still losing battery while using the phone seems about as pointless as ever.

 

I don’t have a lot of experience with the wireless charger but I’ve had no problem with mine so far. Even with my case on the charger connects with my iPhone 11…as to whether it charges fast enough to allow continual phone use, I don’t know.

 

I've not had a single problem with it. I think it makes a difference the type of case that you run. I use a wireless charging specific (thin) case. Furthermore I constantly run CarPlay and stream music and work off the calendar and the phone stays charged.

Those that are struggling with it must be running a thicker case, which a WC is never going to work through no matter the vehicle or charger.

 

iPhone with standard Apple case. The factory wireless charger is horrible. Very weak charge, no magnet so it won’t stay charging with any sort of regular driving. As soon as I have the time, I’ll figure out how to tear it out and flushmount a MagSafe charger.

 

It seems this is going to have to be on the mod list to get a better charger in there , I had the same experience on my test drive, it would not stay connected

 

This is all interesting to hear, I was at first very bummed that the limited with the topmost package did not come with the wireless charger, however on my 2018 Tacoma, it was really only good as a “back up“ if I was out of cables or something. It randomly stopped working for my phone case, and I would not want to sacrifice protection on my phone with a “thinner“ case just to get better wireless charging. Also it randomly stopped working for my phone in any position, it had to be in the exact right position, wish as someone said earlier, does not work if you are driving on dirt roads. Lastly - I constantly found myself lifting the phone to hand to my wife to look something up or something, so it was always going on and off the charger. USB-C cable in associated port charges it super quick and stays plugged in at all times. So while I am now less bummed about the lack of the wireless charger, I do wish they would’ve come up with a more elegant cable routing solution. Like through the middle console into that area where the wireless charger is on some versions - that would’ve been perfect. I hate having cables showing.

 

ya seeing cables isn’t an option for me either, I would have to fix it from the inside somehow

 

I truly think a simple hole to route them from the bottom of the middle console into the "phone mount" area directly above it would be perfect

I wonder if there is a way to upgrade the wireless one that’s in there with more coils or better coils or something for a super clean upgrade

 

I'll be honest, I was on the wireless charging kick for the last couple of years, and I found that every piece of junk I ordered failed eventually - which is ironic, because the only reason I switched was because I was tired of losing/replacing charging cables. I've since gone back, and USB-C with a high speed charging block is the way to go. It's insane how quickly the new iPhone will charge from 0% to the ~60% range with USB-C in the right block. Also, the USB-C ports in the 3rd gen Tundras are powerful enough to charge a laptop (Surface Laptop 3 in my case), which is awesome and makes me feel better for the lack of the outlet that I was also shocked to learn wasn't part of my "advanced" package

 

Would it be cleaner to connect to the USB in the center console, and route along the side of the console to there?

 

i just want to figure out how to remove the factory wireless plate and use the wires that already exist there

 

Very glad this was posted. I have been wondering the same the. The factory one sucks!! Has anyone ran it into the center console yet?

 

I'm interested in potentially glueing a charging coil onto a thin silicon pad that could lay in the tray and look factory. Anyone else thought about or tried this? They sell these on Amazon for pretty cheap and many support the Qi fast-charge standard.

 

Have you had time yet? The world needs this solution!
