It's been about 10 years since I sold my mountain bike. Since then I've been dabbling with various dirt bikes. The last 4 years I've been doing more intense enduro riding - recently on WR250F. The private land I've been riding nearby was just sold and so now I have no where to ride short of a 1.5 hour drive in each direction.

Stage of life I'm in with little kids, 3 hours just for travel isn't that realistic. I love motorcycles and hits of well-placed torque in slow technical stuff that I won't be able to quite satiate with MTB, but there are good trails under 10min away. Plus MTB is much lower overhead to begin with.

So should I ditch the WR? If so what to buy? I only rode hard tail in the past. But utilizing full suspension compression from enduro I don't think I could give up. Any no-brainer options to opt for if I go that route? Thanks.

You could always get one of the e-bikes. Quiet Kat has some nice ones and you can peddle or motor depending on what you want at the time. They are about 80lbs but you would never know riding one, gearing and all makes it feel like a normal bike when peddling. Even the lower power 750w bikes will run along at 20mph on the motor only. 1000w goes closer to 30mph.

Hadn’t thought about that route. Have you ridden one?

I have. Riding like a bike, peddle only it feels about like a 10 speed bike. Dont feel the weight (80lbs) of the bike at all. There are multiple power settings 1 to 5 or 1 to 8, dont remember, but basically lower is more like peddle assist and more power as you move up. There is a throttle, like an ATV, so you can do peddle assist or hit the throttle. I have ridden both the 750w and 1000w units. 750 would be good for most people, motor only speeds of 20mph, they scoot pretty good. The 1000w probably runs 27mph, larger engine better for heavier riders, more extreme mountainous terrain. Some cool accessories such as racks, lights, couple different tow behind carts available. Quite Kats are not inexpensive but use premium components, the best batteries, etc. Their frames have a lifetime warranty I believe.

Check out the Sur Ron X. Its a cross between electric mt bike and dirt bike. Might be right up your alley

Thanks. Did you get a feel of how it handled jumps? Looks like normal mountain bike suspension. I guess charging up for +60lbs is within the realm of a heavy rider on a normal bike?

No jumps, just rode them around, flat terrain. Check out youtube, Quite Kat has a ton of vids about them.
