2002 Limited V8 original owner. As title says, the bank 1 sensor 1 faulted and took it to a mechanic to fix. They said they were unable to remove it and recommended me to a muffler shop.

They told me the 02 sensor was placed at an angle and stripped threads.

    They gave me two options:

    1. Create a new area to place a new 02 sensor and leave the old one in place. Not ideal but much cheaper. $280

    2. Get new manifold, etc. $1200

I went with option one and hoping and praying that it will work.

I have been through about 4 02 sensor replacements with only 143k miles on it.

Im not sure who or when this faulty sensor was last replaced.

What brand are the replacement sensors? Denso seem to be the only ones that work and last.

Something sounds squirrely about that. I don't understand why they can't get the carcass out, re-tap the bung, and install a new one? Sounds like you're working with a real crack squad, plus your original mechanic screwed your shit up but isn't taking responsibility.

    Find a better/fabrication shop.

They could weld on a new o2 sensor bung after removing the one. Carbide bit to hog it out, hole saw or plasma cutter. Many ways to fix it.
