Assuming that is the amp, what would you recommend in terms of plug and play for the amp, and for replacement speakers? ********* is great, but I must say, the website and info on it isn't the most intuitive (and I admit I am an idiot).

Yes, that is the amp. There really are a lot of great possibilities out there depending on your budget and what you like. What kind of budget are you looking at? I'll admit I'm not very experienced myself, but I've done a lot of research over the last couple of months.

I'd really appreciate the benefit of your research and expertise (don't sell yourself short!). At this point I'd be willing to pay a premium for a good sound, that is plug and play, and the disturbance of the stock nature of the cabin is left intact. I want to keep stock head unit too. So I'd say, budget is up to $1000, but I want to be plug and play.

you can get a monster amp for $1000, serious overkill for your speakers. if you don't want to replace the speakers, get that ********* harness (i haven't had a chance to look at it yet), and a 150-200 watt amp for like $200. anything more is probably going to blow the stock speakers. then, if that still isn't enough, you can get some pretty good speakers for under $800.

don't necessarily have to replace everything in one go.

Preferably not. Don't want the hassle and taking up the space.

Wouldn't recommend going with *********...they know their stuff but their systems are mid range quality and high end priced. I've heard that from several people now. Use their videos for install instructions and then buy the good stuff out there. More for the money. Then use the extra money to pay for professionals to do a quality install. My two cents.

I replaced the factory OEM speakers on my 99 4Runner with Memphis Audio speakers and it did sound better. No way was it loud thumping base. The sound was better. Factory speakers are most likely paper and almost any speaker you get will be made of better materials. Just my 2 cents. Lower cost approach to get a little better sound.

Well i didn't really think when I asked lol.. was it just a matter of tapping the stock speaker wires to the input harness? Or did you run new wiring?

@Borgs, I did my upgrade for just a little less than $1000. Sounds like your objectives are the same as mine were. Kept the factory HU and speaker wiring, replaced factory speakers/Tweeters, added cross-overs, added LOC (LCQ1), added Amp, built my own sub. Check out my audio mod thread and let me know if you have any questions.

Robust Bass, Clear Mids, and Crisp Highs... It's perfect for what I like. This post gives you a very small sample at the beginning of the embedded video. And keep in mind it was recorded with my iPhone mic while making the video, so it sounds even better live.

Is it possible to swap out the amp under the passenger seat, replace the stock speakers, and keep the head unit/wiring? Guessing that should improve the sound enough for my liking.

Or am I missing something entirely?

Yes, you can. You can get a harness that plugs into the harness for the factory amp. It will turn the connectors for the stock amp into individual speaker inputs and outputs. Depending on your amp, you may need to get some RCA adaptors to turn your input speaker wires into RCA. They are about a dollar or so a piece and you would need 6 of them. The same thing for the speakers. There is a harness that turns your speaker connectors into the positive and negative wire for the speakers. I got all of my harness through Tech12Volts since that is where I got all of my stuff from. ********* also has the harness, their is designed for their plug and play amp so you'll just have to cut their connectors off and use the wires. http://*********.com/shop/toyota-tu...ra-stock-amplifier-harness-interface-adapter/You can also get it from Autoharness warehouse. http://www.autoharnesshouse.com/41112.html When I ordered my stuff from Tech12Volts, he threw all the harnesses in. For the speaker harnesses you can go with Taco Tunes again http://*********.com/shop/toyota-tu...esses-crewmax/tundra-speaker-harness-adapter/ or you can get the Metra ones that are much cheaper. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_12071035L/Metra-71-035LC-Speaker-Wiring-Harnesses.html?tp=3097 If you buy your speakers from Crutchfield, they will throw the speaker harnesses in for free. As you can see ********* has good stuff, but they are typically significantly more expensive on their stuff.

So I have an Alpine MRV F300 4 channel amp from a prior vehicle. Are you guys saying I could buy a harness from *********, run a power wire and be good to go with this thing?

Is there no processing in the factory amp?

What speakers would be powered by the amp? IIRC some are powered by the factory HU right?

Can you replace the stock head unit with navigation with an after market one with navigation? Do them make aftermarket with navigation? It's about the only option I want in a vehicle anymore haha.

As long as that amp can take speaker level outputs you can. If not youll need a loc to make it work. The amp powers the front and rear door speakers. The dash speakers are the only ones ran off the head unit.

and does the factory amp do any processing or is it all done in the HU?

    no cut wires?

I mean heck if I can try this out for a whopping $45 in wiring harnesses without cutting any wires...why not right?

You can definitely do this. Go look up my audio mod post and you can get the part numbers for the harness adapters and a table of all the signals and pin numbers.

How about OEM Audio + for a plug n play solution? I used their reference 450q system in my Tacoma and thought it was fantastic. It is expensive though...

That's basically what I've read about them. Good, but expensive. You are paying for the convenience of them putting the system together for you and you not having to do any research. By doing a little research on your own, you can save a bunch of money and probably get better equipment.

There's enough information here to diy..and enough knowledge to answer just about any question..after all is only car audio science not rocket science..and í think some folks around might be able to answer some of those too..
