Sup Fellows! I have a 2021 TRD PRO Tundra with push to start. I am interested in getting a remote starter for the truck as we slowly enter cold season. Something to warm my bum up with. Any recommendations?

    Thank You,
    Browneye

I'm curious also. I just disconnected my "connected services" feature and it removed the remote start. Not a big deal because I really didn't like they way it turned the truck off when you opened the door.

Following. Toyota could not have created a worse remote system if they had gotten drunk, spun around 9 times, puked on their shoes and stuck a finger up their a*#ss.

I’m also looking for a starter for my ‘21. X-start is about $220 and 12voltsolutions is $350 ($270 if you have push button, I don’t). Both are plug and play with no wire cutting. If there are no issues with x-start, at over $100 cheaper, they’ll get my money.

I installed x-start and it's worked fine. Usually takes 4 clicks to get it to crank instead of 3. You'll have to use your key to unlock the door, but the car does not cut off when you open the door.

I have the 12voltsolutions.com on my ‘21 with the App module and I really like it. I had one on my ‘19 also. It is kind of expensive but I like that it’s plug and play with no cutting/splicing.

I have a tech12volt remote start on my 2016.... 3 pushes of the lock button from factory remote and she starts. I can use the remote to unlock the doors and get in all with the truck continuing to run. place key in ignition turn on and push on brake and you are ready to roll. JAMES IS AMAZING WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! My buddy just purchase a 2021 and while not listed on tech12volt website it will work as long as you have a key and not push button.

Start X uses a Fortin Evo One Module, as does the other mentioned. I'm not sure what differentiates the two other than support and warranty. I purchased Start X before I was aware of the other, no complaints at all.

When I was doing my research several people on here suggested James at tech12volts….. yes it’s a Fortin Evo module….. I think fortin plays well with Toyota….. had a remote start installed locally on the wife’s sienna and they pieced together a system using the same module as my truck.

I’m sure most are respectable companies….. James and tech12volts used to be a recommended/sponsored vendor on here…. Not sure if that’s still the case…. Maybe someone else will chime in.

Wondering if you pulled the trigger on a remote start yet? I was debating between Start X which I found on Amazon for $179 https://www.amazon.com/Start-X-Remote-Starter-Splicing-Install/dp/B094Q5W683?ie=UTF8 and the tech 12v option. I also found some on 12v solutions which seem very similar but are much more expensive. I am a little concerned about range for the Start X, those that have it, is it decent range? I just basically want to be able to sit at my local bar and start my truck when I am getting ready to leave.

There is nothing inside either unit that determines range. This unit picks up the lock signal triggered by the OEM fob from within the wiring of the truck, so the range is whatever your stock fob does. You can either add long range, RF Fortin Transmitters (which adds their own fob and antenna), or use the CarLink CL6 cellular module (ASCL6), which is what I have. CarLink requires an annual subscription.

I just installed my 12VoltSolutuons a month ago. Works amazing. For the '21 you will have to cut a wire and splice 2. It's really not too difficult, especially with an extra set of hands, 1 person holds and the other crimps. Has great connections and have had no problems at all. Won't have to cut a wire if you also purchase the long range fob or the app module.

Well, Sunday came early, Amazon dropped the start-x off today. I watched their install video while making the connections, took about 30 mins and works great. Two steps I did not do, under the hood pin, and, since mine is a ‘21, you have to splice into one wire to allow you to use the remote to unlock the door once you’ve used the remote to start it. May do it in a few days, for now, I’ll just use the key to unlock the door. Overall, very happy with the kit.

Very cool. Mines a 2020 so I'll have to splice as well. Definitely going to purchase one and then add the Carlink down the road if I want a bit more range.

carlink would be nice, I’m just too cheap, though, everything these days has a paid subscription attached.

Yeah I think I saw it was around $40 a year and the first year is included in the price of the actual device. I don’t think that’s too bad for the convenience.

On the plus side, it also has a GPS locator. You'll never misplace your truck again.

So I finally got around to installing the start X. Pretty straight forward other than it being a little tight for the wire splice. And double and triple checking that I was cutting the correct wire. I felt like I was diffusing a bomb.
I added the carlink as well which took a while to program correctly but once I did works great.

My truck is an ‘18, so may be different.
My remote start is a DEI product. I believe it may be a Viper. Stupid simple.

Uses the OEM key and nothing else. I click “Lock” button three times to start. Truck fires up. Doors remain locked. When I’m ready to enter, I unlock with the key button and I’m in. Put in the key and turn it “On” position, touch the brake pedal, and slam it in gear. That’s it.

Engine does not shut off unless I get the brake pedal prior to getting the ignition turned to “On”. This could be quite different with a keyless ignition…

The ONLY thing I don’t like on mine is that the steering wheel doesn’t come to me if I remote start. It remains retracted. The work around is to touch the driver memory button on the door. Or, use the control knob to move the wheel.
