my Qi charging is flaky at best. the screen is constantly popping up 'phone charging/phone not charging'.

i have a google pixel 6 pro. i had a pretty beefy case on it, so I got a slimmer one. it's a little better but still doesn't work very well.

i tried with no case for a bit, seemed to work better (didn't test for too long), but going caseless isn't an option.

the same phone, either case, charges fine on an old samsung Qi charger that i've had for years.

pretty disappointing. i guess the charger is 'underpowered'

Same with my iPhone in my truck, useless option imo.

Thanks. I'll complain about it when I'm in for service. Maybe enough of us do they'll address it *holds breath*. ;)

Works pretty well with my iphone 12 but it can’t really charge, run Google Maps navigation, and listen to music on Spotify at the same time because the phone gets hot from charging.
Also, the charging element inside the wireless charger should move to line up with your phone’s wireless charging coil. Maybe it’s not lining up correctly? What happens if you flip your phone 180 degrees?

hah, funny you should mention that. i did try to flip it upside down. initially i thought it was better, but then started to connect/disconnect.

the silver lining is that this 1st world bitch squeal is the worst thing wrong with this truck. aside from this little issue, love this truck. they nailed it

I saw someone on YouTube bought a Apple MagSafe charger and stuck it to the spot where the Qi charger should be.. worked way better fwiw.

I keep a USB-C cable in the truck because it charges way faster anyway.

I’ve added a USB-C and wished I’d got the QI charger but sounds like most people are nearly maintaining charge at best which is a shame. I might just install an aftermarket one but I’d like to have it work properly.

Mine has been fine. I do think the initial Airplay connectivity when you get in is not great…but also my first Airplay vehicle- so is it Toyota or Apple?

That was me in the "What have you done to your..." thread. This one works great. I will run the wires into the console when I get a chance. Would be easy to install a second one if needed. And my Airplay is very fast to connect.

Mine worked great with my iPhone X, but it is pretty bad with my new 13. The camera housing holds the phone up a couple of millimeters, and even if it stays in perfect position, the charger eventually goes red.

the problem with toyota's implementation of a wireless charger is that they only use 2 coils instead of 3. most decent wireless chargers use 3 coils.

same issue we had in our 2015 tacoma

I wonder how easy it is to get behind that part of the dash and add a MagSafe charger behind it? Tap into something that’s on while the truck is on. Or maybe it won’t work through the plastic dash part. It would look more clean, but I don’t think adding the MagSafe to the outside looks half bad to begin with.

I was thinking the same thing but given the charging rates for iPhone are already low, having extra distance might be a problem. Does anyone know the output of the USB-C port in the console? I was considering wiring the Qi charger up to the harness that exists rather than using the USB-C port.

2.5 amps from the type A and 3.0 from the type C (per the manual). My Qi charger I put in works fine using the Type c in the console. If you need more power, and have the AC outlet in the rear of the console, you could use a quick charge adapter there and get faster charging.

Once you mount the store purchased magnetic charger in the console area where do you want to run the wires to the center console, anyone have some photo's?

Dry clean and clever. I’ve looked at the aftermarket Tesla Qi chargers and they appear capable of being readily modded/fabricated into the designated space.

I have been asking this in several threads to actual owners. The first YT review I saw the guy said he lost charge over several hours of his phone being charged in the truck. He chalked it up to running GPS the entire time, but still. That can’t happen.

It happens. The Qi chargers suck. Phone gets hot. Crashes CarPlay. I don’t even use it my in my Tundra or my 3 series.

Mine worked OK today. Connection was stable. I may have lost a bit of charge on my 45 minute commute running Android Auto for GPS. Not sure if my phone was fully charged when I left the house. Got to work with 88%. Samsung S10+. Ill monitor it better on the drive home today.

It seems like issues begin with iPhone 12. Possibly due to the camera casing jutting out a couple of millimeters.
