It's amazing to me how many people on here judge what others pay for a vehicle. I would not personally pay over MSRP, but maybe it's worth it to someone else. Who am I to judge that or say that they need to "learn a lesson"?

Exactly. Not to mention “a lot of money” is a very relative term. My attitude is if you want it and can afford it without putting yourself in a bind, go for it. While I’m not down with paying over msrp, 5k is less than 10% of the total purchase. Ultimately not a huge difference overall.

I also don’t blame a dealership for doing it if they can get it. They’ve struggled a ton these days. Why not get what they can when the market isn’t competitive? They’re going to sell them all regardless, so they’ll keep charging over msrp for as long as they can.

I wouldn’t pay it, but I’m not going to get mad at anyone who does, or any dealership that tries. It’s not even shady since they’re up front about it. Of course, they’ll still do shady shit on top of it all, so just be smart as usual.

You should give Longo Toyota a call in El Monte. They are accepting pre-orders with a $500 refundable deposit. You must make a specific request re: trim level, interior and exterior color. First come, first serve once the trucks start rolling out of Texas. This particular dealership doesn't add on any dealer mark-ups, market adjustments, etc. They are claiming the new Tundra will be sold at MSRP and nothing more. Being that the deposit is refundable, I was willing to put my name down. Now it's just a waiting game. They had approximately 170 total individuals on their waitlist as of 1 month ago. Longo is the largest Toyota dealer in the country, therefore, they can afford to make a little less per unit based off of their volume.

I reached out to the dealership I go to a week or so after the release of the 3rd Gens and my rep told me that they were only going to get the 1 or 2 of the trim levels mentioned by the OP, but they didn't know for sure about the inventory they would get. She had no info on price and they weren't taking any pre-orders yet. She also told me that they weren't expecting anything on the Pro until March next year if even then. There is a dealership close by taking pre-orders (at least they advertise on their Fakebook page). I can't see how someone would pre-order anything without some kind of an out on the money down if things weren't to their liking. It's like was mentioned earlier in this thread, a threat to take it or lose your money! That's some BS right there!!
I personally have decided on keeping my '18 a bit longer while this market settles some.

Going to visit my longtime local dealer here in Round Rock TX, always been easy to deal with. Will advise on what they say about pre orders and timeframe, we are just 80 miles north of San Antonio. Having said that, a year ago April when the dealerships were Covid ghost towns and TP ownership was all the rage I went in to see (and bought) a 1794 brown 22000 mile 4x CC truck and was able to get it for 43000.00, as optioned the original window sticker is near 57,000. I should have bought two, lol. One and 1/2 years and 10,000 miles later its still worth more than I pd in this extra crazy cash rich region. The new ones sound very tempting although in truth if I follow my last dozen purchases will probably wait until they show up on lots gently used, 2-3 years old with low miles. This 18 is my third Tundra (06, 15, 18). The 6.5 bed avail on the new CC is a major positive to me as that extra foot makes a real, usable difference. Not new here but its been a long while and I had to re-register. Nice to be back.

I had hoped not to have to do plugs on the 09 in December and tires next March but it looks like those checks are gonna have to get written.

Supposedly Longo Toyota doesn’t mark up their cars. I was asking about an Rav4 prime and they said about 3-5 month wait but no markup!

I know this is fair game but I felt the need to point out that there are some Toyota sales guys on here as members pretending to be just regular Toyota owners who post as "have great experience buying this dealership ...in xyz state about xx miles xyz town. go there ask for "sales guy name" had great experience with him. To me this is just one inch away from putting the dealership's name and address.

Some of them are so obvious to point out. :)

I am going to wait until Sept 2022 and see what the prices look then. I have asked around in central Florida and will not pay $5k over msrp plus add dealer ons to get a TRD Pro. I can wait a year.

I’m working with a dealership to get a ‘22. Don’t have much info other than the trim. When I asked about market adjustment/pricing his sales manager said 60-65k. Unsure how they came up with that number if they don’t have details or specs.

Any good questions to qualify how much I’m getting bent over?

Which ‘extras’ should I be looking for or avoiding?

before I got my '21 , i was talking to AutoNation* in Tempe, AZ. I was going to buy it from them but when I asked if they can drop the $400 cost of the tint, he came back all snarky at me, saying they don't negotiate and that I can only finance thru them. walked away from that just for the attitude. went to larry miller in peoria, found the one I wanted and they managed to drop the market adjustment price, threw in all season floor mat.

I think the market will take a long time to go back to what it was. I remember a time when people would come on here and other car sites and rave about how they got 5-10k off msrp. Now people are coming on here and raving about getting msrp. I am sure that there has been a study out there of how you can change peoples minds and this is one of the cases. I for one have never paid msrp and won’t. Only way I will is if my vehicle is on its last leg and even then I would probably shop used. I would venture to say that those that will pay msrp and msrp+market adjustment will probably be upside down when the market corrects itself. Myself, well I leased my 2020 and will buy it out in a year and half. Why, because I don’t see dealers giving me another tundra for $380 a month, not anytime soon. Also if the market takes longer than expected I still have a one owner truck that I bought out for less than a used one, $25.5k.

Have to remember too that you can get fantastic trade in value right now. So paying MSRP isn't so bad. Everyone seems to go crazy with the options jacking the price way up. Just get a base model.

Talk to Daytona Toyota. They are selling at MSRP, but their add on is about 2-3k but is lifetime oil changes and such beyond that of the toyota care standard two years. I live in Seminole county and if they had what I wanted I could live with that. Synthetic changes are jumping in price and if its free for life, I can do a once a year drive to the beach for an oil change, lunch, and a trip out the Ryobi clearance center to grab some tools.

Yup, instead of getting 2-5k off MSRP I am getting about 10k more on my trade in, net cost is lower now. Been stuck in a base SR5 Sequoia though and going Tundra Lmtd and loaded this time around.

Depends, some members have said that the dealer has tried to low ball them on their trade. I personally have checked with Carvana and what I make on my truck isn’t worth the MSRP price on the new one. And a base model starts at $37645, $3600 more than last years base. I paid around that +/- for a 2020 SR5 DC SX, OTD. Which by the way had dealer installed opinions. Most if not all dealers add stuff to jack the MSRP price.

Carvana in general is bad. Try Carmax if there is one locally. There is one across the street from one of the local Toyotas here that offered us nearly what we paid for my wife's camry, the dealership then matched it as they have an agreement with Carmax to sell anything they can't price match to them. Paid 24k for her camry, got 21k after 4 years and 35k miles.

Ya, I did post under both threads. I don't work at a dealership, nor have I ever. I'm in healthcare. I just sold my 2020 Tundra Limited CM thanks to the high resale value right now, and I've pre-ordered the '22 from Longo Toyota. I'm just trying to gain information from this forum and, hopefully, help someone else out in the process. Cheers!

Dealer is buying my 19 tundra with 45k for $49k this Friday in stock form... I paid $50k for it 2 years ago- this is a win. Dealer is offering $2k off MSRP if using toyota financing, that pays for a platinum warranty through them, win. They are taking the truck in as a trade in now, saving me the sales tax on the new truck, win. THEY ARE GIVING ME A LOANER TUNDRA/ 4RUNNER/ TACOMA for 1.5 months once they have my build sheet, win. Selling off all the aftermarket parts and netting out super positive from that. Take those two numbers and combine them for a down payment and my truck payment drops almost in half for a new fully loaded 1794 or platinum. Summer time fuel savings should be about $400 a month. No brainer.

Carvana offered my $45k for my truck, Carmax $49,600. Use carmax or a local dealer.

I would call around... First dealer I spoke with in CT said 5-10k markup, I called bull and found a dealer, got in writing, that will sell at MSRP. I have my cut sheet already, truck being built 11/29. Good luck!

Hopefully they aren't as shady as a lot of Ford dealers are and when the truck comes in they jack the price. Don't like it? Too bad, they sell to someone else.

I bought my 2020 from Hendrick of Concord and talked to them a couple of weeks ago about ordering a 2022. Bulletpoints of conversation
    * no dealer markup
    * there was however the ~$1500 in dealer add-ons
    * they would honor the build price on Toyota web site
    * Their kicker - they couldn’t guarantee my trade-in value **** ( I could always go to Carmax, LOL )
    * Hendrick Motorsports test track is behind the dealership and Toyota was supposed to have all the Tundra models out there for the salesmen to drive and educate them on options such as the true $3995 dealer installed lift kit
