    Hi all,

Just wanted to share than I've been deep into all things 2022 Tundra and put in an order for an SR5 Sport in Blueprint. It's been a roller coaster wading through everything online from various sources about problems and perceived issues and it's easy to get bogged down. When all you hear about are the issues the problems seem to have a greater frequency.

One example is the tow hooks and payload. I was digging deep into it until I went a actually looked at my 2013 Ram Sport. No tow hooks, payload 1388 lbs. Never really noticed.

That said, I just wanted to put out there that I'm excited to get the truck. If anyone is riding the same coaster as me, take a sec to stop and dismiss some of the vitriolic group-think and just enjoy the ride. Truck on, ma bruthas and sistas!

(One caveat - bullsh!t that a $60k vehicle doesn't come with running boards).

60k for a truck without tow hooks is acceptable. Don't worry about the "vitriol group think". But oh BTW it's bull that you don't get running boards? :monocle:

Welcome. You will fit right in.

I’m glad my truck didn’t come with running boards. To each his own.

I’ve bent two different sets of running boards, including the Toyota OE style on my Tundra. I’d prefer sliders myself.

    Enjoy the new truck!

I want front tow hooks, I’d prefer to have a small piece of equipment on my truck that I never use than not have the option at all?

Not a fan of running boards but if I get some I’ll get something like the CBI sliders with a platform on them that are more functional as sliders but can still be stepped on.

Going to go with the running boards. Mostly because my wife said to get the running boards.

The reviews I pay attention to have been positive, but . . . . .

The "but's" are justifiable IMO. It's human nature to want constant praise as if you're training a dog, OTOH critical thinkers provide needed content. I wish you the best of luck with your purchase.

I understand some people not wanting running boards, or to opt for something in the aftermarket. Tow hooks however, oh boy, don't get me started...:crapstorm:

Everyone has different tastes in running boards. I can see why the left them off. Otherwise they would need to have additional options for ordering to appease the masses. Like retractable, standard and off-road versions.

Yeah makes sense on the running boards in having options.

Only point of the post really was don't get bogged down if you see something negative and are otherwise excited about the truck. The negative stuff gets over-represented sometimes. To each their own, but for my usage profile, I think I'll be pretty happy (though I sure wish there were some testers at dealerships to try, nice if they coordinated sending those out early for everyone to sit in one at least).

Totally agree. Very interesting what I hear in this day and age of "information" sharing. I had a friend of a friend tell me to not take delivery of my 22' on order cause of "major turbo problems" and "extensive repair". He isn't a car guy and I easily guessed which single picture of the cab off a new tundra he saw on his FB group. Can't say it doesn't bother me, but I sure would like more information on what exactly the failure is, how involved the "fix" might be, the frequency of occurrence, and how Toyota is addressing it before making any public judgements.

What confuses me is some of my sports cars have had major issues. I mean major....my GT350 put a rod through the block at 1800 miles and it seems like nearly half of them have had major engine issues at this point and it doesn't get nearly the attention it seems as the handful of Tundra's with some kind of check engine for wastegate (or actuator or part defect or software or whatever) issues. At least Toyota will likely fix it to never come back. I got the exact same faulty engine design back in my GT350 after waiting 2 months without a loaner. My 991.1 GT3 also had known issues for finger followers in the valve train failing. The revised the part multiple times and added a 10yr 120k engine warranty to help quell the fears.

Many good cars have issues, it's how the company deals with them that is important.

I think the 22 Tundra buyer is much different than the GT350 buyer and even the 911 GT3 buyer. There may be some overlap but it’s very small. So Tundra people go into a panic when that expectation of reliability starts to disappear.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
How many Porsche 911 owners (any variant) or GT350 owners daily drive those cars and have no other alternative daily drivers? How many of those buyers buy a 911 or GT350 for maximum reliability on a day to day basis?

Totally get that and it is understandable....I am in the same boat and every day I am closer to just keeping my 21' and not taking delivery of the 22' as I start thinking stuff like "would I really feel as comfortable taking it on a 1500 mile vacation trip as my old reliable 5.7?"
I'd sure like some more data to be able to make educated inferences myself however as it sure seems like a very few issues and unfortunately lots sharing of partial information all over social media. Really just surprised me that my non-gear head buddies have heard something about turbo failures at this point from facebook or YouTube, etc.

I only brought up the other cars with issues as failure rates are statistical numbers not a person's feelings or perceptions. I prefer facts over feelings. So far it seem we have way more feelings than facts regarding the 22' which again is understandable, I just don't like it.
