I used the wireless charger once in a friend's Tacoma. He loves that thing and has said he'd never buy a vehicle without it now. I find it to be gimmicky personally. The charge was slow and it made the phone very hot.

    I'll stick with corded charging.

I know Tesla does recommend to customers not to charge past 80% unless needed for a long trip but thats also because the cost to replace a Tesla battery is thousands of dollars and once people figure out these batteries are just like any other lithium battery and won't hold a charge as they did brand new 5 years later people will realize what a bad investment a Tesla is. Phones on the other hand are in the market of making you buy a new phone ever year or two. The main complaint people have with their phones and reason to replace is it doesnt hold a charge anymore, thats why they made 99% of phones now have not easy to replace batteries like the phones of the past since most people dont want to try and take their phones apart. Phone companies want to advertise that their phones can last X amount of hours on one charge so most people charge up to 100 and then down to single digits or 0, the two worst things you can possibly do for a lithium battery. Many used to follow the 100 to 0 charge cycle because that was what was recommended but that was carried over from NiCad batteries which hold a memory. Lithium batteries are most volatile when charged all the way up which is usually some where over 4v. The best voltage to keep your battery at is around 3.8v which is usually roughly 50% so if you can keep your phone between 40-80 is going to give you the best longevity.

I’ll be doing this when my Limited comes in too. Question: did yours come with the “Limited” decal, or did you relocate it from your original tray?

I got the $80 wireless charger from Ebay and installed it yesterday. It was simple. I suggest you not use an impact driver on the small back screws under the armrest. They sink through the molding easily.

The charger seems to work well on my wife's Pixel but not so well on my ancient Galaxy 6. Hopefully, I get some use out of it.

Hey how's it going. If you don't mind me asking. How's the Scoche charger working out ? I'm wanting to get one for my 2020 Double Cab but don't wanna spend what they want for the OEM. Thanks in advance...

    Lots of shenanigans.
FWIW, I did the DIY method and saved a lot of money doing it.

I bought and installed this one over the weekend. I decided NOT to get Toyota’s OEM charger because it caps at 7.5 watts, which is the standard for basic Qi wireless chargers. But modern phones, at least iPhone 12 and 13 and I believe the Current Pixels, can support rapid-charging up to 15 watts. It’s a big difference. So I went looking for another charging pad that supports it. I ended up buying this one:

Xipex Fit 2014-2021 Toyota Tundra Wireless Charger 15W Super Fast Phone Wireless Charging Tray Pad Toyota Tundra Accessories https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09B7D4KNZ?_encoding=UTF8

    $129 including prime shipping.

Looks flawlessly OEM despite being a Chinese knock off. Came very nicely packaged. The instructions were in Chinglish and were not at all helpful, but they link you to a 3 minute YouTube video walking you through it.

Super simple install and I’m not good at car stuff at all. Dead simple.

It’s maybe a 30 minute job and 25 of those minutes are just unscrewing and later putting back in the couple dozen tiny screws that hold the console assembly together. The rest was plug and play.

The fastest Qi charging speed possible on iPhones is 7.5W. The only way you're gonna get 15W charging speed on an iPhone is with a MagSafe charger or a USB-C charger.

So the Amazon charger you bought can charge android phones at 15W (but iPhones will still remain limited to 7.5W).

@Shadowfax1 Can you tell me the interior measurements for that Amazon one? It should fit my phone but I can't find measurements on Amazon.

I don’t have a tape measure on hand, but the augmented reality measuring app on my phone puts the interior space at 6” x 3.5”.

So has anyone here been able to use an Apple MagSafe 15W charger on the bottom side of the OEM cradle in the center console?

    2 questions:

1, any issues charging through the thick plastic?

2, how did you wire it up?

The battery in these phones today are so big, that they take forever to charge wirelessly. You're significantly better off using a cable!

I'm surprised I don't see this recommended more but I highly recommend the Spiegel magsafe wireless car charger (iPhone users). I have the charging tray, my wife will put her phone there sometimes but it is slow to charge. This Spiegel charger is great. I believe it charges faster than the tray and it can hold the phone in a great position. See photos

After a bunch of looking around, I think I'm just going to slap one of these in the tray: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WV1J8QL

Then drill a hole for the cord, put a grommet in it and plug it into a 12V charger adapter I have already. Seems people were having issues with the OEM one and my phone so this will be a much cheaper route.

I have an iPhone 13 pro and am experiencing issues with the OEM charger. Seems to work for ~5-10 minutes and then I get the red error message indicating metal/magnetic object, overheating, or incompatible phone. This was while using a MagBak case. I have also tried with a rokform case and without any cases. Did a brief search and saw that others are having issues with IPhone 12/13 pros and OEM wireless car chargers. Some suspect it is the extra protrusion of the camera, some think maybe the magbak ring itself.

So @Roborob70 what combination of phone/case are you using with the OEM wireless charger right now?

I've been using this on my note 10+ and it is secure and can still take a bigger phone as well, no over charging, great customer support as well. And the phone doesn't get hot.

Mine was loose but i tightned it with a pair of pliers and it is pretty sturdy now. Should've reached out to the mfg. they would have sent you a new one. I had trouble with mine with the sensor and they sent me a new one, no questions asked.
