They built the engines in an assembly plant in Alabama.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
I hope not. I plan to shit post really hard in the comments when the wildly optimistic fuel mileage numbers don’t pan out.

Alabama is where they assemble the engines.

Yes. It was a two week daymare from the second day of receipt. Toyota was a dismal mess as is Toyota Financial. Dealership bought it back w/o any participation from Toyota and secured a newer upgraded model at their cost.

It’s great the dealership stepped up.

I get so mad about shit like that I would have been tempted to just contact a lemon law attorney and put the wheels in motion to break it off in Toyota’s ass. Tell the dealer there’s no need for them to take a hit on it.

Are you the person whom the dealer secured an upcoming TRD pro allocation? There was someone on here with whom that was the case.

Either way kudos to the dealership for stepping up

Nevada’s LL are very unpleasant for manufacturers and that option was floated. This isn’t settled and that sword of Damocles remains suspended above them.

Haven't read more than 30 posts from this thread, being honest. When you get a turbo charged engine, brag about fuel mileage and then have to spend 3,000+ for a new turbo cartridge/seals, how much fuel does that equate to? My friend (ford owner booooooo!) had to replace two turbos, BUT he still brags that he gets 25 mpg. It's exhausting to hear from turbo charged engine owners, it is truly exhausting.

Oh man so sorry to hear! Per chance could you share more details like what happened when problem first cropped up and how the techs at the dealership reacted?

Have been through a buyback. In the end, signed an NDA as part of the buyback. In this case it worked out and received a substantial upgrade from the car manufacturer. That said, while the car was in the shop, inquired weekly on status, kept all emails and notes from conversations, never got upset with them and didn't post emails or videos on social media. (They have large legal departments routinely checking social media) Beginning of week 5, set a meeting and spoke directly with company contact presenting case and state lemon law. Had answer in three days and upgraded replacement in next ten days.

I picked up my 17 after having a new fuel pump put in. I hung out with the service tech for a while. This is a large dealership.

They have three 22 Tundras in there right now with the waste gate issue.

It’s definitely a problem for Toyota.

3 at one dealer at this point would indicate more than 0.1%

Will this be a problem that shows up immediately or will most of the tundras experience this eventually? Should be interesting if this is just a US issue with the parts and engines made in the US or if the Land Cruiser will experience this as well.

Closer to 5-10% of all the trucks we've received have had some issue, be it a harness or turbo issue.

Man, if you were the third guy to bring your truck in it will be awhile before they get around to it. But on the plus side by then they should be good at fixing it.

Good Lord...that is an absolutely frightening number.
I just called out my sales guy to check once more with his master tech. I find it pretty f'ing disingenuous for him to tell me "nothing has come across our system."
Giving him the benefit of the doubt, it could be just a timing matter from @BTBAKER 's post until now.

Not "22" Tundras, three 2022 Tundras. Still a scary number.

If that % holds trues of all production to date and its mostly the major part like the turbos, that's horrible and need to shut down the line till its sorted.

No doubt, I would assume that % certainly crosses threshold for a recall. Imagine they would wait to publish recall till they have secured adequate inventory of replacements. Would just compound fallout. "We fully stand behind our warranty and your peace of mind so pretty please bring in your brand new vehicle and park it in our yard for 1 to 2 months while we wait on parts." Could you imagine getting that in the mail? Owners on here would be apoplectic. No doubt stroking out on reddit and FB.

Dang, all the North Texas Dealers are hammering me with trade in offers. I might try and get one of them to comment on this.

From everything I've read about others asking, they all get the old "first we've heard of that, there's nothing in our system" line of BS that all manufacturer's now seem to use as their go-to when confronted with a possible issue.....

I assume that they are assuming and spewing BS with no facts to back it up.....having said that, I really hope their "guess" is correct.

I've read of 8 owners confirm they have the issue, one dealer has three, another dealer has four. Best I can tell there's no overlap, so that's 15 trucks since last week.

How many turbos did they buy in this batch to be able to pump out 18k trucks per month? I'd guess a whole bunch.

I'm sure they'll figure it out, if they haven't already, but if I had a truck built in December I'd be wanting it to fail now personally and not be the oddball that waits until 62k miles.....

One thing to keep in mind peeps, this is the internet, so 'if you read it on the internet then it must be true". Take everything w/a grain of salt until there are facts to back it up. Not calling anyone out Just saying.
