So we are finally able to build and price on the canadian website. something i wasn't aware of before, in order to get the 389 HP in DBL cab or crewmax TRD sport SR5 you have to go long bed, or move up to limited. is this for real? or a glitch on the website

Sure hope it's a glitch. They told us the detuned engine was only supposed to be in the SR. Come to think of it, the spec sheet that was floating around early on had the "high output engine" (or something like that, can't remember exactly) on the SR5 and up, if I recall correctly.

Thats what i was thinking. was going to trade my 17 TRD off road dbl cab for a 22 off the same trim but i definitely wont be for a reduction in horsepower

I think it's a glitch. I can't get the builder to show anything besides 'i-FORCE 3.5L Twin-Turbo V6' for any grade. Another glitch the SR5 shows the 6.5ft bed double cab length the same as the 6.5ft crewmax length, while the SR seems to show correctly (CM longer).

They must have a bunch of bugs in it or something.

Edit: granted this is US not Canada builder.

im hoping just a glitch, i really cant see what difference it should make going from short bed to long bed to get higher horsepower

Hello guys. Also in the process of buying a Tundra and I am also confused by the HP rating of the different trim in the Canadian Website "builder".

Anybody confirmed if the SR - TRD Offroad or TRD Sport packages with crewcab and short bed have 348 or 389 HP?

I was assuming that TRD package would benefit from the non-detuned engine...

SR is the 348 hp engine only. SR5 and up is 389 hp engine.
There are no TRD packages for SR.

For the 22s I just thought there were two motors the v6 twin turbo and the the hybrid?? and there are no other versions.

It might be a mistake on the Canadian site but see the on the screenshot below, it's the only way to configure a Crewmax with a short bed and TRD offroad package, but according the the specs it retains the SR detuned engine...

The SR grade gets a detuned version of the V6TT engine.

I see OP’s issue. The Toyota Canada configurator is not easy to understand. Since SR has no packages, selecting a TRD package automatically upgrades the vehicle to an SR5 grade which means you’ll get the 389 hp engine. The US Toyota site does a better job (mostly) of taking you step by step through grades, cab/bed configuration, powertrains, packages… etc.

    Thanks for the answer!

When using the website build tool, even when you start with a SR build and add the TRD Offroad package, when looking closely at the exterior image you can notice the SR5 badging and not the SR.l, thus the 389HP engine.

I just confirmed my build to my dealership and should have my Tundra next month :)
