Just wondering if anyone has tried to open the tailgate with the side (tail light) button or the remote, In the cold weather. My wife's rav4 rear hatch wouldn't open. And it's all electronic.

We had a fairly unusual snow event here, followed on by some serious freezing for a few days. I couldn't open the Leer cap rear hatch on my truck, and I was completely frozen out of my Q60 for 3 days, everything physically frozen shut.

I don't think being frozen has anything to do with brand or model.

I have an electronic tailgate lock in my current vehicle that I have had since 2008. It's gotten to -30'C (-22'F) where I live and never one issue. The physical door was frozen at the gaps but the lock actuated without issue.

Our RAV4 hybrid lift gate opens no probs in the cold, may times now. Maybe if bumper is packed with snow & ice frozen to it the clearance is lost so it can’t swing up? Otherwise not sure why it wouldn’t open, unless also frozen shut with thick freezing rain, that too may be too strong for the electric motor‍♂️
