i was outside all day working in my yard and at the end of the night looked at my truck and saw it squatting. it had 8 40lb bags of salt in it by the tailgate and absolutely looked like crap. i removed the bags and drove it around the neighborhood and although it looked much better (pic of truck facing left) it only actually measured 1 inch higher at the bottom of the wheel well. i guess the incline has a lot to do with it because to me the pic with lots of squat looks like the suspension is broken.

this is a new truck to me with 60k miles. It has just recently had new 6112s put on the front at 1.9+ and new 5160s put on the rear - stock height in rear. i will probably add a cap plus a decent amount of gear when i go on vacation. also occasionally tow a landscape trailer from 3-5k total. mostly i don't want it to squat when im taking the family to the beach and if i can help it I don't want it to ride like a dump truck.

Please let me know what i need - all new leaf springs, add on springs . i dont know what the stock springs are rated for or what i need for +3-400 lbs...im not opposed to airbags but i want to make sure the truck is matched up to what i do. thank you in advance.

An alt rock band called Powerman 5000 had a hit called "This is what it's like when worlds collide".

In your instance the song is re-titled "This is what it's like when you load the bed of a leveled truck". Add air springs or ditch the +1.9 on the front axle.

so it's kinda leveled. so when you add weight to the bed, it will make it squat. thats why trucks have the natural rake of them....to accommodate the loads it will take. i'd lean towards add-a-leaf springs to help or the air bags. air bags are faily easy and cheap to install. if you get the on-board air compressors to air them up without stopping at a truck stop or back home, they're nice, but will bump your price up.

    Not sure at this point.
Never understood the leveled look, but like others said, you’re lifting up the front due to the weight of the components up front.

When you don’t lift the rear, it’ll result in the squat. That’s the reason for rake.

A 2" front level isn't going to actually level your truck, there should still be rake of about an inch. That rear driver wheel well looks suspiciously lower than the other side. I would find a level surface and take measurements of each wheel well to see what it's actually sitting at since the incline isn't helping.

Roadmaster active susp HD kit, Dobinson's HD 5+2 springs, love it. Very minimal squat with a ton or slightly more in the bed. I use yellow sumo springs for bump stops, so there is no solid bottom out point on my truck.

Unfortunately IMHO these trucks just don’t look good leveled...at all. The lines on the roof really do amplify the “sagging” look especially on which angle you are looking from. I installed some CB 1 inch shims to my stock Tundra. I love the front look and the way the truck rides after getting the alignment set to CB specs however it always looks like it has a saggy ass…drives me nuts. So much so that I ordered the 1 inch CB shackle to bring me back to factory rake…

I have the dobinsons leaf springs, regular duty, which is 330lb extra capacity. I recently towed a stump grinder at the very front of the trailer, and it only squatted about an inch. The factory leaf springs are incredibly weak and sag with minimal load.

If you wanna see some real squat. Here's my 7.3 with 4260lbs of gravel in the bed today ( about 200lbs over payload, he loaded a little too much) Other than ride quality, you'd never know it was back there, during acceleration or braking. Gotta pick up another load tomorrow.20220117_122305.jpg

Has anybody ever measured the wheel wells to see if they are at the same level with the body line front to back? Most trucks arent and those fender measurements are worthless.

Trucks sag with weight. Leveling kit didnt help. Just drive the damn thing.

Thank you sir. That's her "good side" lol my neighbors tree fell on the bed in 2020. Put a big dent in it. Gonna flat bed it in the future if I can't find a bed. My buddy has an 03 f350 single wheel 4x4 for parts. Gonna use it to convert mine to 4x4. Gonna take my time with it. But it'll be a great project. My tundra is almost complete so I'll be able to spend more time on my 7.3

Check around at companies that swap to service beds. They often have ten or more beds sitting on skids out back brand new. They often get busy doing other things and those just sit until someone asks.

I've checked all over. These old beds are hard to come by these days in good condition. Most companies that swap service beds have newer trucks.

They are out there, and I will check a few places around here when I get around. Sometimes the trucks were wrecked with the service body so the original beds never were put back on for the trade up. Won't promise, and I don't get around daily much nowadays, but I have many oil patch connections up this way.

Yep I knew that sag well. I fixed the issue with Alcan leaf pack 500# over stock, and CB +1 shackles. Fixed the problem. I did this three years ago and still running strong. CB shackles make a world of diffirence.

I have measured the distance from the bottom of the wheels well to the ground - is that what you are referring to?

Holly crap I've never heard of them before either. Not to hijack your thread...but since getting rid of my 4" blocks last year (I have a 7" BDS lift) and going with OME springs + Coachbuilder shackles (3" iir?), I've had a noticeable ~1" to 1 1/2" rear sag. I thought I just maybe had to adjust the shackles. I have a tool chest in bed chock full with tools & recovery stuff...I have no clue how heavy it is but I know it's real heavy. It's likely what's causing the sag.

These things might fix the sag, and help out with hauling as well. Thanks for posting this link @thedonn !

Just a few days ago, I put six 40# bags of salt near my tailgate with two 53# propane bottles and got nearly the same look. But that's a ton and half plus right at the tailgate of a half ton truck. I sort of expected it ;)

I wonder how it would have looked with the weight nearer the cab.

SumoSprings work great for sag. They replace the rear bump stops. Easy install.

Yeah, I have yellow on my truck. However, prior to upgrading leaf packs the Sumo Springs were right at the frame which limited axle articulation. I bought a second set and cut them down about 2" to be able to swap them easily for off road articulation when desired. Simply throw the hi lift under the hitch, droop it a liitle and swap in minutes. So aside from that, yeah Sumo Springs are a great affordable squat problem solver.

i couldn’t care less what the door jamb sticker says. If it puts your truck on the bumpstops, you’re probably hauling too much.
