I was going to make the same offer. Mine was relegated to workshop stereo status years ago. It’s still sitting on the shelf next to my stereo, but hasn’t been used in years since I began using my old iPhone as a Pandora source.

That's ultimately the route I chose also. My parents were letting go of their their Bose 201 series IV so they gave me all 4 for free. I had a spare powered 10" Monoprice sub and found a Sony STR-DN1070 head with full bluetooth integration "for parts or not working - doesn't power on", only $178 shipped so I took a chance on being able to diagnose/repair. Turns out, if the antenna is attached, the unit powers down. Solution: Don't attach the antenna, I don't listen to OTA radio anyway. Wired it all up, throw audio to the receiver over BT, and with these speakers, it hammers the shit out of the shop.

I’ve been working on this bracket to mount my ultra gauge and switch panel underneath my single-din radio. I’ll update with more pics when it’s done. What kind of mounting solutions have you guys come up with?

I have a panavise bracket which installs below the dash bezel to mount either a cellphone or my Sirius Sportster radio. Had to dremel out some of the dash plastic behind the bezel to get a good fit.

I saw the Panavise and Proclip options, I figured if this doesn't work ill try out the proclip.

Made some adjustments, mounted the bracket and the fuse/relay box. We will see how it holds up…

Are the switch array and the fuse/relay block sold as a package?

yeah, it’s all one setup. You wire everything in and then you have 6 power outputs for each of the buttons. It’s a really slick setup.

6 Gang Switch Panel, Nirider Universal Circuit Control Box Button Switch Pod Touch Switch Box for Truck ATV UTV SUV Car

I’m not sure why there isn’t a higher end option like this. The switch pros style switch panels are awesome but I bet if they made a full package option like this, they would make a killing

My older sister has a cricut so I commissioned her to cut these vinyl button covers for my switch panel. I’m not a fan of the labeled buttons so this should clean up nicely. The ring is cut in the middle so they are still backlit, and the button goes from green to yellow when the circuit is switched on.

Housekeeping today. Greased all the ujoints. Maybe it’s placebo but I feel like the truck vibrates less now. Would recommend. I had to go buy another grease gun with a smaller end fitting. Got this one at the zone.

Also did a ghetto alignment since I’m not done with suspension changes yet. Unthreaded one tie rod and tightened the other one equally.now I don’t need to hold the wheel at a ridiculous angle. Also added fresh cotter pins

Finally, I had to clean up the bed. A while ago I tossed a half empty gear oil bottle back there. BAD IDEA. Soaked in degreaser and scrubbed. Much better now

Its been a while. our little boy is six weeks old now, happy, healthy, and pooping everywhere;) he has been keeping us busy but not busy enough. I bought a motorcycle, an early 80s xs650. hasnt ran in forever so it should be an interesting project (if there's any interest ill start a thread) Monday morning my brother's wife got in a terrible accident with his 06 DC. she will be recovering for a long time, luckily their two kids are shaken up, but mostly fine. this brought to mind all the horrible unsafe things I've got going on with my truck. over the next few weeks I will be working on this and posting here as I do. the list is something like this

    • Driver's side seatbelt is fraying. does anyone have experience with this? I've seen used ones on eBay, but I can imagine a seatbelt out of a potentially crashed truck isn't the best replacement. let me know what you guys think.
    • Upper control arms. my suspension is set up on spacers which cause my UCA to contact the coil at droop. not great. also my upper ball joints are horrific and I've been putting this off. also the extra caster will make it less sketchy on the interstate. I ordered freedom off-road ball joint style arms. thanks to @speedtre for testing them out! :mudding:
    • Lower ball joints. this is low on my list since both have less than 2000 miles on them, but they are auto parts store ball joints, so not the best.
    • tools in the cab. I carry quite a few unsecured tools in my truck and this is potentially bad news in a roll-over. a ten pound tool bag could quickly become a skull basher. working on a better solution.
Maybe a good topic of discussion. how safe is your truck? Mine isn't.

Safety restore did my belts. They retract better now. Pretty painless process but not free of course.

If I can help with any stock parts lemme know. I would do those lbj’s sooner rather than later but that’s paranoid me speaking. That’s the last problem I ever want to have really.

I have a roam which might work for your tools, lockable and portable. Or a conventional case or swing case. Lots of options there. That would be my lowest concern, odds are that won’t hurt you directly, but it could hurt someone else in a big crash.

Do you remember what the seatbelt repair cost you? I only have one belt that needs to be done.

I mention the tools because its easiest. for a bit i had them stowed in dry bags under my spare tire carrier, but I'm not a fan of leaving them for anyone with sticky hands. tools are spendy. also I went to a fair bit of trouble to ensure that the carrier was removable if I needed my entire bed. the swing cases are cool but would most likely interfere with the spare. weather gaurd makes some upright tool drawers but they are not very affordable.

IIRC the belt rewebbing was 1-2 ballpark, closer to 2. Might be half for one side, you could ask. I think their prices are listed.

ETA: I looked it up, $168 for me.

Given that spare carrier setup I'd definitely get any old crappy lockable truck toolbox (craigslist perhaps) and bolt it in so it can't be removed without cutting. Since you'd have to remove the spare carrier to transport large stuff anyway, the toolbox won't be that much extra hassle as well. I kinda like the ones which bolt down to the rails/stake pockets and leave room underneath for stashing things in a pinch but the ones that sit in the bed have more volume for storing things.

But what I would really do with that truck is this:

(yeah, I'm good at spending right?)

You never truly get rid of that smell. It's impossible. I had to sell a Honda I owned about 15-20 years ago because a little heavy weight gear oil spilled in the trunk - like, seriously, the pool in the trunk's spare tire well was only the size of maybe a 3x5 card and laying flat. Sat for no longer than a few hours.

I got rid of everything - spare tire, carpet and fiberboard covering the spare tire well. Down to bare metal in the entire trunk. I could still smell it in the cab of the car, it was atrocious on sunny days. I think I tried everything. Cleaners, degreasers, thinks like Febreeze to mask it, even an ozone machine at a friend's reco. Only thing I didn't do was cut out the OEM sound deadener, I suppose maybe it soaked into that, but I think it got in the paint and/or sheet metal.

I already knew how persistent gear oil stench is. It's one of those things you smell as a kid and never forget. I took precautions to avoid it, knowing what the cargo contained. Anyway ... I hope you got rid of it but suspect the that nasty ass smell is back there!

PS - glad to see another Dewalt guy on the forum. Milwaukee gets tossed around a lot here. As much as I love Dewalt, I've been slowly making a move to Bosch. I've been really happy with the longevity and power of their stuff.

Started with the bottom driver many moons ago. Today, with shitloads of use, still runs like the day I bought it. recently picked up the top one, because the battery is compatible and I'm trying to reduce my tool footprint.

Actually that smell is completely gone. It was in my bed and I'm sure the harsh Wyoming weather helped. I cant imagine getting that in the interior though:eek:

I'm a pretty big tool enthusiast, but I really don't use my tools that often. I was given a DeWalt set as a teen and I've just kind of stuck with it. The 1/2" impact was a game changer though. I'm no longer completely sore after a tire rotation! I've been super pleased, but time will tell.

Photo dump of the recent additions, first up was suspension.
    • JBA UCAs
    • TC diff drop
    IMG_2007.jpg
    IMG_2014.jpg

Also, decided it was time for tires, so I picked up a set of milestar Patagonia ATRs for CHEAP. I'm not sure if i like them or not, time will tell.

    IMG_2054.jpg
    IMG_2074.jpg

Future work in no particular order:

    • OEM LBJs
    • Timing belt replacement
    • off-road Jack build (more to come)
    • full size spare
    • on board air (also more to come)
    • bumpers both front and rear as well as rock sliders
This round of modifications has got me really excited for this project. Hopefully I can keep enthusiasm on this project, but life and problems get in the way sometimes.

bonus picture of me and my boy, he's getting so big. the goal is to make a family trip to Moab next year in the tundra.

Pulled off the wheel decals that cover the machined surface, the boy helped out too. I'm not sure if I like it better or not, but when I had the tires done, they scratched 2 of them pretty bad. they also broke a wheel stud and discounted me $10. I'm not sure how they think I can replace a wheel stud and a lug nut for $10, so that's a little frustrating.

I also cut and folded the body seam that my tires were rubbing on. I got it wire brushed real good and ready for seam sealer, turns out I don't have any. I threw some spray paint on it and called it a day, until I get some sealer. I'm not sure if that was the right call or not, I'm also not sure if cutting and folding that seam was the right call. what do you guys think?

Personally? Any time there's bare-metal, I'm cleaning the entire area with paint prep spray, then cutting, then cleaning again, then using a self-etching primer (sometimes labeled "bare metal primer"), then top-coating with paint per the primer's instructions on the can. Painting is one of the few times where it really, really, really - did I drill the home enough? - helps to RTFM.

WTF is up with the tire shop? I would've made them cough up the proper stud and/or $10 off and they give the lugnut. That's bullshit. $20 off is more-fair. But really, they should've replaced the stud and fixed the issue. You break it, you fix it. That's industry standard for your southern neighbors down here.

Note: The rear wheel studs are different length than the front, I assume due to thickness discrepancy between a drum and a caliper.

Feedback: I normally hate black wheels, but I think it looked more custom/better with the decals over the machined part. I'd switch back, honestly.

Question: Did you move to 285/70/17 with the new tires? They not only look taller in the side-by-side pic, but also look really f'n tall installed.

That Bumbo seat your kid is in ... I forgot about those. :D I remember those days well. It's so nice when you can slap them into a seat and they just stay put. Enjoy it while it lasts!!

Last night I was laying in bed thinking "I'll definitely be back in there wire brushing that paint off"

The tire shop used to be very reputable in this area, but recently was bought out by Les Schwab. I will not be going back. I made it pretty clear to the guy that i cant fix the damage with $10 and told him the discount is a joke, but id rather walk away and learn my lesson than make a big scene I suppose.

I liked the vinyl coverings, I agree ill probably end up buying a new set. Its hard to tell in pictures but the wheels are kind of Gun-metal grey, and the vinyl was a pretty good color-match.

I went from a 265/70R16 to a 285/75R16, so I gained about 3" in the tire. it is huge compared to before, and you definitely can feel it on the road. its not bad, but it just feels more like a truck. I think these tires also look bigger than other 285s because they're a 16" and not 17" wheel

He loves the bumbo! as long as he has something to look at, he is pretty content. sometimes he will stare down at his legs for a while, I think he is trying to figure out where he ends and the bumbo begins...
