I've had my truck for about half a year now. I've noticed it make a clunk or thunk noise when turning on the AC after starting the truck or getting moving. Is this normal? I understand there's typically an abs noise too when starting - what exactly does that sound like?

    Too many, but not enough....
Some people get the ac noise, especially if the truck sits for a couple days. By all accounts its normal though nobody really seems to know what it is. Most likely an engagement sound as it's not unique to tundras.

If you have your ac on before u start truck or wait till trucks warm before using ac it doesn't do it.

Abs clunk happens first time you drive after turning on engine at 6mph as reliable as the sun.

Mine used to do this when it was new.

Now that I think of it, I don’t recall hearing it in years. At 45k miles now. No issues.

The abs self check is a deep, loud, thud/bonk.

A/C compressor clunk is similar. but the abs self check you can feel in the seat if you are paying attention.

A/C compressor clunk can be because a small amount of liquid refrigerant is in the suction side and the compressor gulps it. I had this issue on every 4runner I've ever had.

Thanks! Good to know. I figured it was probably within the normal range of sounds for the vehicle. I was just concerned since my vehicle was built during the part shortage era and it doesn’t get driven much.
