You stated at some point previously that that key gets in the way of going into '2' or 'L' correct? Unless you fold it down out of the way. Something also to keep in mind if considering the fold out key. That's the reason I stopped looking into it.

Edit: This is untrue. Key fob clears just fine. Mind playing tricks on me it seems.

    No, that was not me.

there was some talk about L and 2 and 5 speed vs 4 but absolutely no clearance issues.

I did accidentally drive in 2 for a bit after getting gas on my road trip.

I guess I'm going crazy lol. Swear I saw somewhere that it would interfere with the shifter in '2' and 'L' and although I don't shift down very often it was a deal breaker for me and I decided against it. May reconsider the flip fob option.

I will double check myself and get some photos when I next have my truck. Sliders on Tuesday. Excited to drive it with the new front shocks.

Looking at these photos I can see how you might have been nervous. Let me get some from a horizontal angle once I’m back with the white shark.

    I located the ECU, Model = RS3000; FCC ID = BAB 237000-129
Before locating it, I took a gamble and bought the fob the dealer said would work, FCC ID = BAB237131-056.
I tried to program it by pushing the green button for 3 sec, and then a button on the fob within 5 sec. No chirp, no work. I assume the fob I bought won't work with the ECU, since the FCC ID's are different?
    Thanks, Doug

Yeah, I think you want an exact FCC match. Let me check my spare key just in case it's a 129, maybe you just got lucky.

nope, unlucky you, my spare unused didn’t work is this.

I did get lucky. I figured I had nothing to lose, so did the unloop move with the wiring connectors, and the fob programmed properly. I will go put the loop back together the way it was. Thanks for all the help you provided, and for all the people who blazed the trail before on this thread!
    Thanks, Doug

Awesome, yes, that is a pre-req to programming.

You want to leave it the way you changed it to if you want to program any more.

I don't technically see a security risk to leaving it open, one less thing to remember down the road. A thief isn't going to break in, locate your receiver, program a new fob, leave the truck un-altered, and come back later to steal it. It's just done that way to foil users from adding easily so they think they have to pay the dealer. I left mine un-looped.

Has anyone posted a pic with the actual location of the RS3000 control box? If not, @Belair-o are you able to do it? Would be super helpful on a lot of these threads if there were pics of the location of the control box for 3000 and 3200s.

Top edge shows part of it, note the connectors have been un-taped so you can see they are not a keyless fob receiver. The receiver is up higher, with a curved arm to the m6 stud. Follow the red wire upwards. Orient based on the ducting (must remove a section of it) and steering column.

Does the receiver stop there totally, or does it tee off to the antenna? I guess one way to find out will be to try using your key fob when you swap out your antenna assembly. I'm going to try to hunt for my RS3200 box at some point this week.

I thought I remembered reading that somewhere. Pushed me away from the flip key. Like I said, going to 'L' isn't something I do often but don't want to have to worry about messing up the key if I do.

Understandable. Thanks also for alerting me to this.

I think L would be limited to wheeling in which case I'd use the regular key I suppose. And keep the fob for fancy date night stuff which this truck is of course the best possible vehicle for :)

So, err, umm, how to explain my situation :)
My truck has pretty much lived in my mechanic's yard since August.
    Of 2021.
    No, I am not joking.
Range is OK but given how little I've used it, not sure how much I can comment on that.
I do have plans to retrieve it and bring it home to Oregon from Cali on 11/19.
However, CA DMV has suspended my registration despite multiple attempts to submit proof of insurance so I may well end up in CHP jail?
Anyway, ask again in a month or two? From what I remember it was as expected, similar to my '16 Tacoma H Key.

I've been having trouble getting new ones programmed. Does the looped harness cause it to simulate programming mode, but also cause it to fail to program? I was under the dash on mine tonight & was able to get the nut holding the black taped thing off without taking anything else off, but I can tell it isn't going to let me get the receiver down or check the connectors. I decided to give it a try again in the daytime. I'm messing with it now & wishing I'd just left it alone, I've been without fobs for about 5 years now, so WTF right. I've got the dash lower panel & a/c duct out of the way, pulled the plastic frame all the plugs go into out of the way, then fought with the box on a bracket POS. What I found is black box with 3 stickers on it, none of them have the fcc id # on them, only thing I got so far is that it does have rs3200 on one sticker. This box is wrapped in foam, has a bracket, also where the plugs are there's a sensitivity adjust. The part # on it is on a sticker that reads
    Theft Warning
    TOYOTA
    89730-YY120
    237000-3100
A google search took me to another forum with a poor bastard that went through this on his 03, but there was only one reply, the dealer can tell you the fob you need by the VIN... :annoyed: I've already done that! :angrygirl:
I expected to find the looped harness plugs but I'm not sure the 03 is set up that way. Anyone have an 03 that they sorted out, please let me know. TIA
1st attempt at posting pics sorry if I fucked up.

Thanks shifty, I've searched & read just about every thread I could find on this & other forums, problem is that the 02 has the last of the rs3000's then they transitioned to the rs3200, most of the info I find is for 00-02 models, then 04-06(usually DC models) but hardly any 03's. I've gotten into programming mode a few times, the problem is now the remotes fail every time, & I get the 2 cycles of the locks, I've defaulted to clearing all the remotes, then trying to get them added by cycling the key on off twice in the sequence, just as the rs3200 manual says.
Not sure if I've mentioned this here but the 1st time I got to program mode I had a prob with the buttons sticking on the fobs. So I took the boards out to prevent that & tried again, I got them to work, but made the mistake of pressing the aux & unlock instead of the lock & unlock buttons.I didn't know it until I tried to put the boards back in the cases. If I could've just turned the boards around I would've, but the cases don't have the aux button. So it's frustrating, to know I got them to work with wrong buttons, & now they're not letting me do it right. I've read the user manual in its entirety more than once, testing each mode to get more info from the control module.
I've had the batteries out of the fobs for a couple days, just in case they store any info in memory.(I know that's not likely either)
If I still had my service manuals I'd dig in, but that's just another item on a long list of things I no longer have.

The thread @Shifty link to might have had it but if not, the below pdf is the RS3200 Owner's Guide for 2003 owners. If after following those instructions it still doesn't work, other areas would need to be checked.

After procrastinating most of the morning, I got to putting my truck back together, then tried the process to pgm the rs3200 fobs I had bought. I don't let anything kick my ass without a fight, it might get me once, then it's war! I've built PC's that did all kinds of weird shit, so I know how illogical electronics can be. I was wanting a better understanding of this beast, so I proceeded to mess with it trying all the different modes it is supposed to have, mainly because my previous attempts had left me feeling like a total dumbass:eek: I've done enough technical stuff on all kinds of big kids toys, & I'll figure this one out, eventually anyway. I've been using the key in, door close, method the most, so I tried to get in verification mode to see how many fobs were stored.
The control module had been disconnected for a day, fobs had batteries out for 2 days. I tried a few things to get them pgm'd but kept getting the 2 cycles of locks, I've gotten so sick of the sound, I hear: Fail, Fail, You a who, Fail!
after trying to do it properly to no avail, I wanted to see if I could get back to when the fobs worked with the wrong buttons from when I 1st tried this. So I held the aux & unlock, then tried the lock button, fail, so tried again but aux for lock, got 1 cycle! Tried the next fob, proper buttons, fail, then same as the 1st it prog'd with aux for lock.
I tested them a few times & had panic & unlock, can't access aux since I have the 3 button fobs. Tried to figure how to put the boards in upside down, doesn't work, but decided I can buy 4 button cases to put my boards in, & maybe get a key with fob to try adding it too.
From what I can determine from this, if you screw up like I did using the aux button, it seems to register with the module as if it's the lock button, even clearing stored fobs with the cycle lock to on 2 times, these fobs refuse to register properly. I tried the standard add mode too, no difference. Either my module isn't clearing them out or the fobs are locked in this weird way, I don't know yet. I guess I'll try messing with it again when I have more fobs to try. This thing won't beat me, I'll make it understand that I expect it to work right, & I won't settle for it messing with me again. I've got a memory from hell, I won't be forgetting this experience any time soon.
I'll be on the phone with an electronic engineer I know, if that's what it takes to explain why it won't do what it's supposed to do.
At my shop I always got the weird stuff that just showed up at my doorstep. I thought I'd seen enough stumpers in my time but lucky me, I got one I call my own. It must've been because it was my Dad's, he pushed me back into auto repair when I tried to make him understand I was burnt out on it by age 24. I just hope this isn't his way of keeping me doing it forever... :boink:
The fobs I got are the equivalent of the BAB-056 units, which is what my dealer told me would work. I think my truck was built in 6/03 but if I'm wrong I'll edit later when my head doesn't hurt. I hope this helps others avoid the mistakes I've made. I'm sure to make other mistakes too, just give me a few...
Thanks for all the input guys! This is a shortened version of my experience, original had too many flash sideways moments to follow unless you are in my state of delirium.:frusty:

Wondering if anyone could help...2002 Tundra AC, paired new FOB with RS3000 per instructions. Confirmed chirp and light flash upon pairing. Buttons don't lock or unlock. Buttons do cause audible "noise" under hood that lasts about 20 seconds. If I hold buttons 3 seconds the panic horn does work and I can silence it. Just the door locks not working.

You mean a continuous beep? That would imply that the system thinks a door is open. Happened on my camry when I pinched a wire and it thought my trunk was open. (Same rs3000 system)

Define auto-lock? There is a programming guide for that system. Should be in this thread somewhere.

As in once you remove key, exit truck with door closed, 30 seconds later it locks.

EDIT: I think this is only if you are outside the truck with it locked, unlock it, don't open a door within 30 seconds, it will re lock. I will have to verify.

Is that happening now? Didn't even think that was an option.
