I have a 21 1794 and curious how good the alarm system is? I will be headed to training for work in a sketchy west coast city this month for a few weeks. Many people have had their locks drilled and even vehicles stolen at the hotel we stay at (I think they are older model vehicles with no security features).

I’m just curious how my stock security system is? Can it be stolen without the key fob? What if the windows are broken in, will the alarm go off?

I believe I can track the truck if it gets stolen on my Toyota app. I’m all up to date on the subscriptions.

I already have cat plates installed so I’m good there.

    Thanks and stay safe all.

    Alot of them
Do you have security bolts on the cat plates? I would be worried about that. Not much you could probably do, but I wouldn't stay in a hotel area with a known high crime rate. If I did it would be a company paid rental.

If you want to keep it parked there, pull your fuel injection relay, lock it up in the hotel. Outside of that, aftermarket systems can be a nightmare, and battery kill switches are far less effective than pulling that relay.

    Good luck!

    Too many, but not enough....
leave the truck in the safety of your home, bite the bullet and get a shitty rental. 100% worth it imo.

Or just pay for ubers while you are there. Probably wont be hittin the town very much anyway due to covid and if you drink, then even less chance you will be in a condition to drive anyway lol

There won’t be any drinking lol. I’m an airline pilot in for training and my wife is 9 months pregnant so if she goes into labor id rather drive home than risk not getting on a flight

I would. I dont even like to park my tundra now in a garage for the day and I have cat plates and security hardware. Maybe I am overly paranoid.

The built-in security system is pretty good, but the hotel you're staying at "for a few weeks" obviously isn't. What airline would put it's pilots up in that? If another, safer, hotel isn't an option and you value your Tundra, the rental car option may be your best bet. Personally, I'd be concerned for my own safety in that hotel.

Having said that, I don't stay in hotels. I tow a travel trailer to an area just outside town and take a taxi or rental car to my destination. If I'm unfamiliar with the area, I prefer a taxi so I don't have to drive myself.

I guess now the hotel has an armed security officer who can make arrests. So I feel much better about parking my tundra there now. Hope it keeps the grifters away

Which city, and which hotel? I know the west coast cities really well. I might be able to point you to some safer garages or other places near-by to ease your concerns.

Not sure if you saw my above comment but the hotel now has armed guard at the parking lot. They can also make arrests.

Good for you. During a business trip to Indianapolis, I stayed in a (supposedly good) hotel once that actually scared me. They first caught a bum sleeping in the next room and then later had big brawl in the lobby (police, ambulances, etc). For some reason, I decided to try elsewhere.

Years ago, I actually managed a couple of hotels in Myrtle Beach SC. You'd be amazed at the crazy stuff that went on - bloody sheets from a guest with a bullet hole in his stomach, guests looking for their rooms in the wrong hotel, guests sleeping in hallways after locking themselves out of rooms, a guy working on his motorcycle in the room, a dozen people in a small room with only one bed, a guy with spears & swords all over his room, strange animals in rooms, and so on. Rarely a dull moment.
