Annoying bouncy ride on concrete roads

    My 2014 DC had bed bounce bad with stock KYB "black" shocks on the concrete section of I-80 between Sacramento, CA and the Sacramento Airport. It was so bad it was almost nauseating. I found a set of 4 low mileage yellow Billstiens including front springs for $200 another member of this forum removed to get Pro-Comp shocks. They eliminated about 80% of my bed bounce! A Snugtop camper shell dampened out most of the rest. My Tundra rides almost as smoothly as my Camry now. I never noticed the bounce at all in the Camry before driving the Tundra on the same section of highway.

    Don't have many concrete highways in my travels, but switching from OE trd off road suspension to 6112 & 5160's smoothed out the ride considerably. Firmer, yet much smoother and connected

    The +1 shackles are actually like a +5/8 or something like that. Hardly noticeable. And they definitely helped my bed bounce. Combined with the weight of the topper it’s non existent.

    I have not seen it mentioned so I'll go ahead and say. Check your tire pressures, the dealer consistently over inflated my tires. On the door it says 30 psi front 33 rear. But they always do 35 all around, when I lower it to spec my truck rides much better. Not say it will smooth out the concrete issues but it helps. My problem is that the low air pressure sensor goes off at like 28psi. There must be a way to change that but I have not found it yet.

    Rear sway bar, trd air filter, running boards, sound deadener in doors, upgraded speakers, cargo glide, topper, Roof racks, overland awning.
    I refer to it as harmonic imbalance as the road sections are perfectly spaced vs the wheel base and the suspension can’t catch up before it’s engaged again.

    Based on something I saw in another thread, are the shackles the part that actually helps with the bounce or is it just the bushings? If installing just the bushings helps with the issue then that might be a better option for me since I'm not looking to add any lift.

    Trd sways, bullydog, magnaflow, sumo springs
    I believe it’s a combination of the bushings with the stiffer shackle. The OE shackle is 2 pieces of metal, the coach builder is a single heavy duty unit, so you eliminate some flex there. The tundra has so little visual rake when stock that I wouldn’t be too worried with .6 inches of lift

    I got the Coachbuilder +1 shackles installed on my '19 Tundra today. I drove I-25 from 58th Ave down to Arapahoe afterward and the bounce was definitely better.

    The ride in my 7in lifted 1st gen grand cherokee on 33in mud tires is extremely good. Has a small amount of body roll but is very plush and smooth.

    I've also driven many pickup trucks over the last 25+ years and never experienced any bed bounce. I didn't even know that was a thing until i got my tundra and the ride on concrete highways makes me talk like somebody is rapidly pounding on my chest.

    resurrecting this thread as I recently added the RoadMaster Road Assist springs to my Tundra...I think it made the concrete bouncing worse! rides perfect on asphalt and on some concrete...but the freeway in the salt lake city valley its horrible. springs work great for helping with the sag however. maybe some replacement shocks?

    Certain trucks and or different wheelbase lengths do this. Buddy had a 2010 Chevy 1500 crew cab and it was absolute murder to ride in on the freeway. Bounced all over the place and made everyone car sick.

    Yep, heading south from the dealership when I bought my truck... and on the way to NM. Bucked like a bronco... really wondered what the hell was going on.:bucket:

    Unfortunately my wife was not with me, so I couldn't see if she was able to counteract the harmonic resonance. :bananadance: I suspect she would have been lacking the necessary mass, damping, and spring rate, however...

    what does the bucket mean?

    I may have to take off my new springs just to take another ride without them to compare. I dont remember it being this bad before. this last trip was unreal.

    I know people rave about their RAS... but it looks like an over complicated POS.

    LOL ok bouncing bucket it is :)

    They're pretty simple actually. I towed a heavy box trailer after installing the springs and they make a big difference on how it carried the load. still used WDH but it handled much better. I liked the idea of not having to worry about air lines/pressure and them tearing if you went offroad and stretched the airbags. they were also quite easy to install. This bouncing though...not digging that.

    I was in a rental for 2 weeks before getting the new Tundra.
    2021 Ford F250, crew cab 6' bed. Heavy truck, 4x4, solid front axle, different suspension setup than the Tundra, rode nice for an HD truck, yada yada.....
    It did it too.
