I am the New Kid on the Block: I'm an 85 year old Kentucky retiree. You can find out a lot about me by visiting my Facebook page. I'm a conservative. I'm also a freelance writer.

I enjoy challenges. Sometimes I stay awake at night thinking of ways to do things. If something goes wrong with my truck, tractor, 4whlr or whatever it is I'm doing, I take to task pretty good until I get it done.

Thanks for all the "Welcomes" and when I figure out how to get pictures from my phone, I'll post a picture of my 06 Crew Cab SR5. It's got 267,000 miles on it. Most folks think it will get at least 300,000. I don't drive much more than 4,500 miles per year so it should last 7.5 years? I'll be 92 then and I hope I'm still able to drive it.

I'm still new at replies. I don't know who I am replying to, but thanks to all for the welcomes. This seems like a nice group to share Tundra experiences. I haven't had much of a chance to drive mine yet, first thing was a bad UJoint. Got it fixed. Second was the battery post..replaced the connector..third was TPMS sensors..replaced them but can't get computer to find them...3rd was the spare tire removal tools...thanks to Palm Tree I got the right skinny and have ordered tools. Went to Lowes and bought a 21 MM socket and a 1/2 drive breaker bar to put in the kit when it gets here Someone posted somewhere about some electronics interfering with the TPMS being paired with computer. My brother had replaced the original radio with a newer fancier one that had all kinds of bells and whistles. I wonder if that is what is keeping the TPMS from pairing? Any thoughts. Thanks to all.

Welcome to the forum from Dallas..
Some tire shops are competent enough to program the TPMS sensors, many are not..
I doubt the new radio is the problem.
Some higher-end after-market radios (AKA head units) will actually show your tire pressure if wired properly to the truck.

    Good luck..

Thanks for the info. I have an appointment with the shop that put the TPMS sensors in, to see if a different device will work pairing them. Toyota dealer said they "might" be able to pair them but want $100 to try..no guarantee. I'll find a way to do it .. even if I have to buy the instrument from the sensor makers to connect to the truck's computer.

Has anyone bought their own TPMS relearn tool? I'm thinking of getting the Autel TPMS TS408 tool to see if I can do this myself. Tire shops have one tool, and if that doesn't work, they have no interest in helping me find a shop with a tool that WILL work....I paid a lot of money for the sensors and installation, now i'm stuck because they won't pair them with the truck's computer. Maybe if I buy the Autel tool I can do this ???? What are some thoughts on that? Has anyone bought a tool and did their own????? Thanks.

150$ for a tool you’ll likely only use once and may or may not solve your problem, hell no. The shop that installed them needs to relearn them or reimburse you for the sensors. What was their excuse for the lite still being on?

I didn't buy the sensors from them, they wanted about $50 each for them. I bought 4 from Amazon (Mobiletrons) for $66, guaranteed to work on my Tundra. Problem is I paid $120 to have them installed. The excuse was that their pairing tool did not recognize the sensors, even though the scanner they used picked them up. They told me if I bring it back they'll try a different pairing tool. I haven't had a chance to take it back yet.

I see, we’ll I’d try that before dropping money on your own scanner. Are you sure you have the correct sensors? Also, if you have a Discount Tire shop near you, they are almost always very helpful if the original shop can’t help. Good luck.

I understand fully what your 84 year old father must feel. I am very, very sick of passwords. I have internet through ATT hotspot and use a Samsung cell phone to get online. So therefore I have a password for ATT account,Samsung account, gmail account and Google account. When I want to do something I'm always asked for a password. If I put in the gmail password, computer wants the Google account password...If I put that in, it wants the Samsung password. Computers today are not what they were when I started on them back when I was in the Navy in 1954-57. The ships computer took up a room nearly as big as my house. All you needed to get on the computer was a key issued by your division officer. You put the key in the lock and turned it on.

It is extremely frustrating to wade through all the passwords, logins, do this, do that, change password, (there's one that gets me...every 6 months I'm told to change my password....if it was good enough for the previous 6 months, why isn't good enough for the next 6 months?).

Thanks for you welcome....Sorry to rant about computers on a TRUCK forum....

I took the truck back yesterday to the shop that installed the sensors. They used a Snap-On Scanner and apparently it paired the sensors with the truck's computer, since the little flashing "TPMS" light went off. I hope that will be the end of the TPMS system problem. Should I let 10 lbs of air out of one of truck's tires to see if the system works properly?

That might not be a terrible idea. Only problem is that usually you have to drive the vehicle to get the sensors to recognize the pressure in the tires. Usually if the light is not flashing then the system should be working just fine though.

Welcome to the forum from Etown KY. Great to see you on here. I'm in my early 20's and am used to the 'old folks' in my life hardly knowing how to send a text. Hope this truck gives you many more trouble free miles for as many years as you can get out of it.

Thanks, NickB. I guess I could just let out 3 or 4 lbs. and drive the truck. Most of the problems us old folks face are that young folks think we are dumb. Glad you understand that we are not "dumb" just technologically challenged. LOL.

I'll try the lowering pressure a bit first before I mess with the button. It would seem that the truck's computer would remember what the pressure was supposed to be from the original setting?

Isn't this just a 2nd/2.5 gen thing? Do the 06 trucks have the button too?
