I heard that Toyota amplified certain frequencies from the natural engine note to make the engine sound more aggressive. Several models have this like Avalon and GR Yaris. I don’t think it’s a fake V8 sound like F150 ecoboost uses.

That sounds slightly less blasphemous. Still sounds silly to me personally. It’s like stuffing a sock in the front of your underpants to impress the ladies.

To me, something like that is the same thing as the obnoxious horn blast, when using the remote to lock-unlock "other" vehicles. If my 2010 Tundra did it when new, it would've been first on the list of "customizable features."

Bumping this thread… Anybody happy with their aftermarket exhaust?

I’m considering the AFE with the turn down tip..

I had a MBRP on my 2017 Tacoma but took it off the next day.. So definitely they’re outta the question.

I've been well pleased and have had great service from Keith Carty's Dirty Deeds Exhaust. He custom builds the entire system to your specs. Mufflers from 6" to 24" + no torque loss like the 'universal' off the shelf systems that use 3" pipe. Keith offers a "trade-in" option too, if you want your system quieter, pay shipping and he'll send you another one. I've done it twice!:D Call him if you want educated on Tundra/Tacoma exhaust systems! 1-760-877-4234.

+1000 for Keith @dirtydeeds he will talk to you about the sound you are looking for and recommend a system for you. His service is amazing, you can even return a system for another one… sound guarantee I think he calls it. You’d pay the difference of course and shipping. No performance loss. I have his standard system, no drone with the resonator installed. A bit loud at times, but mellow cruising the highway. Don’t waste your money somewhere else… he runs plenty of specials on the forum as well….

Are you Keith from dirty deeds lol. Holy referral. $999 for a bolt on muffler is insane. Pass.

Not just a "bolt on muffler." Keith builds full catback systems. We're also not from Dirty Deeds, just customers trying to help.

There's been no difference to pay, I've paid shipping both ways, that's it. Even with my 20" system, you won't mistake it for "stock" under high RPM.

Maybe I am still stuck with the old school V8 sounds but I have always liked MBRP exhausts, still looking for an aftermarket exhaust system that sounds good on these V6s though. Maybe with Toyota releases something for the non hybrid models I will jump on board.

Yeah that’s crazy high . I’ve come to terms that the exhaust on this tundra is what it is . I’ve listened to all the aftermarket exhaust and they just don’t sound good and at a 1k that makes it that easy to skip

Here's a thought based on my experience. Very hard to make a V6 sound like a V8. That said, with having many Cat systems/variants, the Dirty Deeds is by far the best hands down. I ran one on my 22 Tundra and will be putting one on my 23 TRD Pro. As for cost, agree $1k is a hit. The other systems out there cost much more....take a look at the prices on direct comparison. Last is with Dirty Deeds, excellent Customer Service vs. working with big company.

I'd have to agree.... $999 is a hefty sum for a non oem cat back exhaust.
I dont know if they have it for a Tunda yet but for my Taco? $400 for a Toyota cat back TRD exhaust.
Did the swap in 14 or 15.

Installed the carven cut and clamp kit over the weekend on my ‘23 TRD pro. Took about 30 minutes total. Fit and finish are perfect. Bought it from eliteracefab for $389. Then I used the carista obd2 device to disable the ridiculous fake engine noise. Truck sounds much better but the exhaust can be loud at times.
