RCI Rock Sliders

I had to lube my hand up with wd-40 to get it between the frame and gas tank. Good times.

 

Any of you RCI slider owners also have the Valhalla front and rear cat plates? Wanting to know if any modification will be needed with the cat plates.

 

I also would like to know this. ^^^

 

Alrighty, after installing the RCI sliders I did have to remove the rear cat plate and it didn't look like there is any way to use the setup provided by the Valhalla kit.

 

Thank you for the update. Is the issue that the rear bracket bolts to the same location as the sliders? If so, would this same solution as that for the SDHQ sliders work? Requires trimming the bracket and welding the bracket to the slider bracket. Allows both the sliders and the rear plate to be removed separately, but does require trimming and welding.

No worries 3rdT. Yeah the RCI sliders occupy the same openings the Valhalla brackets used on my truck. You might be able to finagle it on over the sliders with a mix of different washers and bolts, but I don't think you could use the same hardware. As far as the sdhq solution goes I haven't yet reviewed the link. But I'll take another look next week when I change the oil.

 

Just picked my RCI sliders up the other day. Looking at the directions on their website, I’m not super clear on everything that needs to happen. Is it fairly straight forward once I’m under the truck and can see everything? I had hefty fab sliders on my 4Runner for a bit and those were a piece of cake to put on. Local 4x4 shops want $400+ for the install, F that.

 

I was in the same boat about it not being clear on the exact details. But you'll find it easier to understand when you're down there. Having a second person is a must and hopefully one of you has small hands as that is helpful on the drivers side.

So I thought I’d be good on the driver’s side, but that last bolt on the bottom back I cannot get in without dropping the tank. The driver’s side was a real pain, passenger side was a piece of cake. If any of you guys have a 21, how many of the 7/16” bolts did you find pre drilled spots for? I could only get 3 and 1 M8 in. Would be 2 M8s if the gas tank wasn’t in the way. Passenger side was 4, 7/16” bolt and 2 M8s. This line up with anyone else’s experience?

Update: Talked with RCI and sent them some pictures. They said that everything looks right and that I didn't miss anything. They did recommend drilling some more holes for heavy duty use, but I don't think I'll need to do that.

How easy is it to drop the gas tank? I've never done anything like that. Could I just loosen up the brackets closest to the driver's side and let it roll down a little? Or just drop the whole thing?

 

this is an old threat but I'm just getting around to ordering and installing the RCI sliders. And this was my question about the last hole facing down on the driver's side. I can't get my hand in there. I was about to try to drop the take but I decided that was a bad idea. May just leave it empty if I can't get it in tomorrow.

Also, anyone have their brake line on the passenger side rubbing against one of the larger bolts?

Anyone have to go to Lowes to get additional smaller bolts because there was still a few places on the frame to bolt on?

@2point5seconds With almost no gas in the truck, I supported the tank from underneath using a stack of 2x4s, etc., and then I loosened (not removed) the straps. Using a pry bar against the frame on the driver's side, I pushed the tank toward the passenger side. That afforded me maybe an inch of additional clearance near the frame and I was able to get my hand up in there for that last bolt. The tank did settle down some while I was working, but it was easy to push it all back together. You may need three hands, but I was able to do it with two.

I'll have to check later on that brake line question, and no, I did not purchase additional hardware. Hope that helps.

What is their cost to install?

 

Yet to be determined; I'm helping and it's part of a trade of my, unfortunately, wrecked '97 Land Cruiser. I will ask him after we complete...my guess $450...

 

They are worth the wait. I need to touch mine up as they are sandblasted from the tires and rusty. But I've used and abused them and they are holding up great.

I liked the RCI skids so much, i bought the Dif slider this last black-friday! unfortunately I've put neither to a SERIOUS test, but they look and feel like tank armor! Very happy with their designs

 

I picked up a set of the RCI sliders second hand a few months ago. I got them to replace some bashed up, rusted out N-fab nerf bars/steps. The RCI sliders are on a different planet with regard to sturdiness and functionality. I was able to install them alone in my garage in a couple hours. A floor jack helps immensely, I wouldn't try this install without one unless you've got some friends that will lay on their back and hold them in place while you tighten the hardware. The rear bolt on the drivers side is a pain like others have stated. I thought everyone was probably being internet snowflakes when they described how hard it is to get your hands in place to install that bolt behind the gas tank but it's no joke. I gave up and will probably try to install it later when the weather is warmer and I'm doing some other suspension work. All in all, them seem like a great product. After I installed them I used the sliders as a lift point under my floor jack and put the truck in the air. They do their job well.
