1/7/21-Going to get this thread pieced together a few pics at a time.
I was looking for a reliable vehicle to use as a daily driver and off road with once or twice a year.
Ending up finding a stock 2005 GX470 from the South with about 153k on it. It had only been through two Pennsylvania winters and the undercarriage looked great.

    Day 1:

Powdercoated the wheels gloss black, had the center caps painted gloss black, and removed/reinstalled the OEM center cap logos with a plastic welder. Switching the logos out was very tedious, I had to reconstruct little plastic rods and weld them to the logo, then insert the rods into the holes in the center caps, then use the plastic welder to secure them. They are now secured like OEM and I’m basically a plastic surgeon. Also some stock size AT3W’s.

Here is how she looked with the new shoes.

The cargo net saw better days so I replaced it with this by Rago.

While I was back there I replaced the handle that was broke with this paracord handle made by OrangeBoxx. Not as OEM looking but the OEM handle is about as strong as wet cardboard.

Next had to move on to address some lights. I replaced the old looking running board bulbs and license plate bulbs with LED. Added red Lamin-X vinyl overlay to the tails to get rid of the ugly orange lens for the signals. If I ever have the opportunity I will swap tails for the newer ones with a clear signal lens. I also removed the chrome trim above the license plate and had it sprayed gloss black, then Plastidipped the emblems.

Picked up a hitch from etrailer and a motorcycle carrier for the back so I don’t always have to take my truck to ride.

Replaced the headlights with OEM sport headlights (smoked chrome) to get rid of that blue/green tint in the chrome housings.

Then used some light grey Lamin-X vinyl over the fog lenses to match them to the headlights. I will likely be retrofitting a new aftermarket set of fogs down the road however right now they are back ordered.

I replaced the driver’s side CV with a CVJ myself but got a bit too busy to the do the passenger side. Saved it to be installed with my lift down the road. After replacing a rear height sensor the rear air suspension was working great. Then one of the bags started to leak and I thought it would be best to convert to coils. If I was going to refresh the rear I thought I should do the front too. The use of this vehicle is to drive daily and rarely off road. I wanted a lift but nothing crazy. Went with an IronMan adjustable (anticipating the lean) convert to coil setup. JBA UCA’s, Dobinsons IMS kit with 2” lift up front.

Took this after installing some Iron Man quick release brackets for the awnings. I don’t normally drive around with an awning on unless I am going to use it.

How is the powder coat on the wheels holding up. Thinking about spending $500 to have the F Sport wheels done in gloss black or bronze.

Best damn riding rig we have and built to last. It's my wife's whip.

I think very well. There are some small swirl type scratches, but I knew that would be a factor with gloss black. I can take a pic and post it if you are curious. They still shine nicely and I think it was worth it though.

That is my favorite color GX, beautiful! Agreed on the build quality, we love ours.

Thanks. Like most Toyota’s, rust seems to be the only thing that kills them. Just make sure you check out the undercarriage thoroughly. I love it though.
