So I’ve had my TRD SR5 for close to a month now and I’ve recently realized my speedometer is off up to 5mph. Waze has always matched my last two vehicles, my wife’s 21 Highlander and as of tonight, my work vehicle as well (including radar). What makes it more strange is the mph that’s it’s off isn’t consistent. I haven’t seen a thread on this yet, but has anyone had this issue?

Many states have a mileage test for 5 miles and will have sign listing it as test. If you're not close to one of them you can use the mile markers on interstate that see while driving. Get up to sixty MPH, set cruise and time yourself in several miles so 5 miles would be 5 minutes. You can also test the odometer by recording your miles when you hit the first mile marker, at end of 5 miles your odometer should have added 5 miles. Also, if your dealer installed oversize tires and not adjust the odometer this could also cause the problem but if it's inconsistent take it in for repairs.

I didn’t even think about testing it manually. I’ll have to check that and see. The tires are factory and they match the door sticker as well.

Here in CA we have lots of installed speed radars through the neighborhoods and city streets, that display your current speed. Maybe drive through one, if you have those too around your area?

and Yes, it’s due to CA stupid drivers..unfortunately

Mine is off for sure. Now that I’ve gone with a hair bigger tire GPS shows it’s much closer, but still off

I’d be willing to bet Toyota won’t do anything since I have aftermarket wheels and tires on it now. Not to mention when the stockers were pulled off I noticed the alignment was off. 2600 miles and front tires were feathering already

In their defense (just a little), most vehicles straight off the truck are off. I only know that from working in a shop. It has a 12 month 12k mile warranty, but my service advisor said the aftermarket wheels and tires are an issue. I’ll probably call Toyota again and see if they would at least cover half. Since I plan on doing the leveling kit anyways.

interesting, every truck I have ever owned has been new and I never had uneven wear from the factory. I wonder if it was all stock if they would have given you new tires or something .

I called Toyota about the issues and they will follow up with the dealership when I drop it off. It was light feathering, so I’m sure they would have just rotated them in an attempt to correct the wear.
