Question is ... does it work or do I need to go after market? and if after market is there one that lets you drain the oil without removing the plate?

The cats are farther back than your engine skid plate. The RCI skid and TRD skid have removable plates for oil changes. Valhalla is where you need to go for cat protection plates.

The Valhalla shield mounts rear of the engine skid plate, and is comprised of 2 pieces for cat protection. They do not interfere with removing the factory engine plate. Here is how far back the Valhalla plates extend:

Just buy button head torx bolts, they're far more secure from theft and they're already rounded achieving the same thing as those bolt protectors.

I have the screwd security bolts all around already. Just wanted the extra protection from scratches and cutting since i need to take the skids off soon for some regearing and suspension work.

Valhalla also offers an engine skid, in addition to the front and rear cat skids, and it has an access door. Here you can see all 3 (mostly).

Maybe. I used the penta- head bolts, which requires the correct size penta socket. With my set up, you cannot access the head of the bolt without that socket.

Anyone with a complete Torx set will have immediate access to a Torx bolt.

$11 plus shipping is high, but I had just plunked down almost $700 for the plates, so another $60 just didn’t sting at the time.

The way these plates go on though, I don’t know if my hardware is necessary. The bolt will just turn if you can’t get to the top nut with a tool to capture it.

The bolt head protects have added benefits, they will protect the bolt head in cases of bottom outs or scraped from wheeling, as well as significantly reducing the probability and ease of simply grinding off the heads of the bolts and dropping the plates. Coupled with the screwdsecurity bolts that I have, it would take a very long time at a very low probability that anyone would mess with my truck when they could hit 10 other vehicles in the time it would take to get to my cats.
