For those that have done the ESP storage mod, does anyone recall if their template was somewhat asymmetrical? Maybe this will become self-evident to me here soon enough.

@havasubud would be the best one to answer that one.

The main compartments appear to line up...

Unless it's an optical illusion due to the picture angles I'd be more concerned about the differences here

    For sure.

Digging around the internets here, this guy had to notch his:

I mean, there is no way that would be a manufacturing defect. It's one thing to be off by a millimeter or so, but...

That guy installed it wrong. This pic is from ESP's site and the guy in the video you linked has it way too far back. Look at the amount of space in front of the ESP on the properly installed one and how the bolts for the seats are visible. That guy has no credibility.

So that looks like about an inch back from the bend in front, thanks for highlighting that.

I think the template on my box was drawn haphazardly. I believe it all works if I essentially split the difference between the left and right, and shift it all about a quarter inch toward the driver's side. Thankfully there appears to be a very large margin for error...

Edit: The upper right side of my template measures 35mm wide, and the same on the left side measures 20mm. So if I shift it right by 7mm, all seems to work. And the margin for error is way in excess of that.

It appears that I am, indeed, dumber than I look... because had I taken a moment to inspect the actual plastic insert, I would have not even asked this silly question.

All good. Sometimes we forget the simple things because we are thinking too much. Glad you were able to get it figured out.

If you still have the template, would you be so kind to take share all measurements? I am looking to do a DIY box out of plywood/Bedliner.

Well, that was easy. A drywall saw cut the stiff foam a heck of a lot easier than the recommended linoleum knife.

    Measure thrice, cut once, kids!

What a killer mod. Toyota really dropped the ball on interior storage, this is a big step in the right direction.

I put my box in back in November/December. I think I may have the cardboard template around somewhere. If you want to pay the shipping, I can cut it down and send it your way. I will be getting some packing paper soon and maybe trace it on pay to reduce the mailing rate. Just let me know.
