Yeti blocks less of the radiator, but their mounting bracket is more expensive.

Don’t forget to spray it black with radiator paint. It would be pretty silly to see the word YETI or RTIC through your truck’s grille.

How many gallons of trans fluid do you have to add for the RTIC?

    It all makes cents now.

New years day there was a "boom" in my area. The NWS definitively ruled out thunder and there was no supersonic air traffic. A satellite that watches for lightning saw a flash over Washington county but it wasnt lightning.

I can now say for certain that the boom was the OP's transmission.

Nope! Jewish space lasers hitting large meteor, causing shower of particles covering the Pittsburgh region. Might have also mixed with the rain causing acid rain. Your motorcycles outside? Ha

So tfl truck just had a 2nd test a new chev. severado 6.2 pulling 9,600. The first test towing trans. over temped at 285 degrees. 2nd test after so called repair was 255 degrees.
I seen people on this web site say any thing past 220 degree is bad for your transmission. So is chev. overstating there towing rating?

Yep. My theory has always been that the domestic mfg's overstate towing capacity while super conservative Toyota understates capacity. Those temps above are too high.

    Saw the same video.

I'm curious to know what the dealer did to get 30 degrees out of it.

I'm ok with 255 as long as there is a system to control it there.

GM has a lower temp trans thermostat available on the 6L80, unsure about the 8 speed though...which I think is what is paired to that 6.2l. Possibly same part?

It could be that the same, or close to the same, amount of heat was absorbed into the cooling circuit BUT the upper limited changed simply due to the floor starting lower.

Original cooling floor was 180, the new tstat changes the floor to 135.

Quick dig * 6 and 8 speed utilize the same thermostat. So there is your difference IMO.

Dont worry about trans temps in gm transmissions. Something else will destroy them long before the elastomers fail due to high heat. My buddies is in the shop right now with 50K miles getting a transmission, good thing is he slid right before the power train warranty expired. never towed anything....

A guy at my job has a Escalade. The shop has had it more than him. And I am not joking. They supposedly fix it and a few days later it’s back in for about 4-6 weeks. It’s in right now as a matter of fact.

    Yes

    180 old floor
    135* new floor

    Big difference

I *think* the full open specs are,
    196 old
    158 new

Most GM owners bypass the trans thermostat all together (we did). You remove the cap, "flip the pill" and the thermostats been bypassed and fluid flows constantly.

If you (or anyone else) want a little more detail on it, the 6L80 TB is "21-NA-199".

Anyone see the latest YouTube video where they test the 21 Tundra towing under adverse conditions to see if it really needs the trans cooler.

Just go to You Tube and search for 21 Tundra Trans cooler. I don't have the link at the moment and I am not that tech savy. I think in the end the trans under load reached around 240 which Toyota stated (not me) was in the normal range.

Is the Thermal Degradation PID available for the ScanGauge II?

I looked on the website but couldn’t find it, and tried searching to no avail, TIA.

I have it on my OBD MX+ but it's not really helpful since I've done multiple drain and fills and I'm guessing it needs to be reset by tech stream, which I have but have never really looked into it. Not exactly sure how it calculates it but have read about people asking the dealer to reset it after a service and they didnt even know how to.
