I’ve probably been in the desert with you at some point. 6 times in the Deid and once to al Dhafra. Never made it to Diego. Always got sent to the desert.

Wasn't center wing tank. It still has a spot for the water tank in the center. It's considered a ballast now.

I remember now. The center wing used JP-7 for the SR's.

JP-7 was in the body tanks. Filled by the SPR in the left wheel well. Used to be Q models. I worked them as T models.

I'm old lol. Wasn't something different on the Q's for the center wing though for the SR-71's?

I think it was something with the manual defuel handle. Gotta ask a crew chief.

Speaking of....I have a book on 135's at work that I got on Amazon. It's very detailed. Did you know that on certain 135s, the tail fin is 40 mm taller than the others? Some strange stuff in that book lol.

    Old KC-135 Crew Chief here!

93 Bomb Wing, Castle AFB in the early 80s. 57-1440 was my favorite girl. I prepped her for the KC-135R wing reskin, turbofan and APU upgrades. As I understand it she’s still flying!

Water injection was the tank behind the center wing tank (670 gallons). After maintenance runs using water we would send new guys on headset back to check the light in the water drain mast. They would report position and whoever was sitting in the co-pilots seat would hit the water drain switch. Yessir, we soaked a few!

Cheers brothers and thank you for your service!

    Mr. King

McConnell last I checked. Might be guard or mothballed now though.

We had both 1440s when I was last there. But I retire this coming year... And haven't touched 135s since 13

Every single upgrade (TCTO) I did to them, every plane was different. A stringer here that isn't there, an extra panel. An old mod only got certain planes that wasn't removed, just disconnected...

I took apart probably every single active duty 135 at some point in 10 years as an electrician.

Wiring for slipway door actuators was different on almost every RT it seemed. E/E had a hard time locating the relays on each jet.

I hear ya there. It's still the same. 30 years with this airframe and the best TCTO to date was the tail stand in the keel beam.

No, it was. They gave 3 companies 2 aircraft each to modify it to an RT because all were made RTs at different times, based on what the variant it was before.

126 was an RC, and a different aircraft before that. 124 the same. We did a TCTO/depot to make them all the same. For a while, we had to bring out the original schematics that filled our desk to troubleshoot

Worst thing to happen to a 135 is MPRS. Being a hydro troop, I really hate MPRS.

Yep. Scary part is simulated retract with engines running. Those main doors are fast!

Only worked them a few times when the Comm/Nav guys were short handed. Was a B-52 Bomb/Nav Mech at Griffiss from 81-94. Left there for Edwards. Did manage to catch some rides on the 135. Quite a few in the BUFF.
We had a jet troop that worked graveyards when I was in Job control. We had to get permission for water runs on graves. He would always run a full 120 seconds. Figured if he was up the rest of the base could be too.

There is quite a few that are down. Just under 50% of ours. Last I heard is they are talking about one time flights to depot .

I retired this last year, so I'm only hearing bits from friends still at McConnell. Couple of my friends just retired down at MacDill.

Just found the mil tab on this site....

Not a maintainer, but a long long time ago I used to put people and stuff on that airframe, and many other big body airframes. I actually just found a drive that I thought was dead and was able to recover what few photos we had from back then.
