Probably very dumb question re: wipers

So, like a complete dumb@$$, I forgot to pull up my wiper blades yesterday before a minor winter storm started…and then pulled up a little TOO hard when they froze to the windshield. As such, the wiper “broke.”

Specifically, if you look @ the OEM wipers, the part that’s broken is the little cap on the end the wiper blade arm fits into; it has a small Toyota emblem on it.

My question - I assume this isn’t necessary for installation of a new set of wipers? I’ve searched everywhere and am pretty sure it’s not but I’m not 100% clear.

    Not sure at this point.
Photos might help us assist you... but it seems like the cap is just to protect the blade itself. As long as your arm isn't bent (assuming it isn't), then you can just get new wiper blades?

    As stated, pics will help.

As for avoiding in the future, fire up the truck and hit the heated mirror/rear defroster button for a bit before trying to move the wipers. https://www.tundras.com/threads/heated-windshield.69173/

I did…but obviously either not long enough, or I’m stronger than I think. I’ll assume both. ;)

As for the pic, sorry, I thought I’d attached it. It’s the little cap at the end with the Toyota symbol. (Icy as hell out there.)

The same thing happened to me over the summer driving across the country and though I could seem to fix it by realigning it all the blade fell off again every time I tried them anyway.

I needed new blades and there are 2 kinds of OEM evidently.

I have read that the older style which are twice as expensive are the real deal and a lot better than the newer cheaper ones and they had both at the Toyota Dealer in Bozeman and I bought the expensive ones, they are great now!

Did you get bad ice down there ,we sure did after it rained all day long!

If you have the original blades that came on the truck when it rolled off the assembly line you can simply get replacement blades which cost typically 7 to 10 bucks. These are the “expensive” ones…

If you get the Toyota Sightline then you have to replace the entire wiper every time.

OP I would replace the whole thing with the NON Sightline because it’s simply cheaper and they work 10 times better in the long run…

Does anyone have the part numbers for the OEM non-sightlines? I bought the sightlines thinking they were the right ones.

I’m impressed with Trico Titan blades on our trucks. Best I’ve experienced to date.

I ended up getting a set of Bosch Icons; they went on just fine. :)

Costco always has sales on Goodyear Wiper blades... honestly, for the price they sell it at ($6.99 - limit 4) they work fine to be replaced every season.

Bosch icons have been the best wipers I have used so far on the Tundra, and I have tried a few- rainx, trico, etc.

    Too many, but not enough....
Isnt the consensus now that you should not put up your wiper blades since it puts stress on the springs and may deform the wiper and cause them to not sit flat?

I usually just take a cup of hot water outside after a storm and gently pull up on them as i pour.

Yeah, you're probably right - next time I'll likely just put socks on the wipers and cover with a throw blanket or something. LOL

Just last week when i spent 20 minutes cleaning the car after a snow storm, i was considering throwing a moving blanket over the cab or something, assuming there is no wind lol. Might try it.
