Double cab just looks right. And sometimes I take trips to home Depot and buy one item really need the longer bed for that.

Who needs the cab. Longer DC "bed" has more than enough room. And the DC would actually be able to handle a full size camper for proper romper room activities unlike CMs where I guess the CM cab is comfy ...But you apparently can fit a love seat in it...

First, it wasn't the Baja 500. It was the 2014 Baja 1000. A peninsula run at that. Logistically very hard. As for modifications in that class, there's nothing really they can do that would make them like a trophy truck. The class is "Stock Full". Full size truck, stock. So no suspension parts (UCAs/LCAs) can be aftermarket. Factory suspension locations must be used. They can weld on some plating for strength. Other than mandatory safety stuff (bumper to bumper cage, fuel cell, harnesses etc.) there's really not much they can do. A camera isn't going to do anything when it's covered in dust. So no one runs them to help with the race. There's lots of GoPros but that's just for videos and YouTube stuff. As for the High Tech Nav, it's just a run of the mill Lowrance GPS. I run the same thing in my Tundra when I'm chasing. They have a chip that you can transfer the race course from GPS to GPS.

Any equipment they have in the cab would be a fire suppression system, satellite phone, a butt load of tools and an electric impact gun. Not much really since they aren't even allowed to run supercharger. So with a full cage, full fuel cell and 2 spares, that truck is pretty heavy. One of the reasons they won was because it's not a very popular class, so there's only 2-3 entries , if any, per race.

The reason Toyota went with a CM instead of DC is because that's the model they wanted to sell. It's all about marketing.

Side note: After the race the the crew took turns driving it home instead of towing it back.

I'm pretty sure you're wrong. I guess you're pretty sure you're right. Were you there? A quick search finds pictures IMG_0618.jpg
Like this. I don't think anyone would call this stock suspension. Find me a picture of the winning truck suspension that doesn't have this.

Yes I was there. Even talked to one of the drivers at a gas station. He has a really nice Tundra himself. I have been doing Baja racing for the last 12 years (stateside races since 2000) That is standard for that class. They aren't allowed to alter front suspension locations or move the motor. Is the track width wider? No. Are the getting more travel with the bedcage? Not much. They still have to utilize the stock leaf spring mount locations. They do that to get the bigger shocks that can handle 36 hours of racing in baja. Being around offroad racing in SCORE and BITD for the last 17 years is little better than a quick search.

@Baja Mike i thought everything you are saying was exactly true, that the pro was stock and argued this before. That guy I was arguing with provided documents and pictures that supported his argument about the highly modified pro. I will now reverse my thoughts (again) because you sound pretty legit. I'm not basing my response on a quick search but I couldn't find that old thread. If I do, I will post a link and ask you to review it and explain the inconsistency.

Sure thing. I'd give it my best. But that design with the shock through the bed has been standard for stock classes for a while. There are certain things that can be done and those that can't. Shock mounting locations can vary by design. The suspension components (Leafs, UCAs/LCAs) must remain stock.

And the SCORE rule book for that class.

My truck didn't come with a deck rail system. So I purchased some d-rings from McMaster Carr and installed them directly into the mounting holes lining the bedsides about a year ago. I recently upgraded my setup with self cut and drilled angle steel, 1" x 1" x 1/8. Then mounted the d-rings to it.
