What made you choose 20" or 18" wheels?

    Hello,

New Tundra (SR5 with 18" wheels) will be delivered today...time for new wheels and tires! I'm debating between either 20" or 18" wheels (regardless of the size 18+ offset). I'm sure others have debated these two wheel sizes. I know the 18" has the larger sidewall so the ride may be a little better.

But curious why others went with a particular size. Mostly for looks? Comfort? Maybe some of the comments will help me decide.

    THANKS :)

Rubber to wheel ratio. How big of a lift/tires are you going to run? 18’s are lighter and more rubber is better off-road

I run 17’s but still applies to 18’s. I personally prefer the looks a lot more. But also the benefits of a much better ride, better tire selection, and tires are typically cheaper too.
I also believe the wheels are normally cheaper too than 20’s. It’s a win win all around.

I'm probably going to run with 34" or 35" tires, nothing too crazy. No off-roading for me.

18s ride smoother and I actually prefer the look. Also, I change my own tires and I couldn't imagine trying to lift heavier wheels.

I also run 35" and just like the looks of the 20's with 35" tires. I don't off road either.

Smaller is better if you offroad and need to air down, allows you to get more sidewall without the risk of potential problems in doing so.

I switch between 20” and 18” wheels/tires (both oem sizes) on my 2020 sport.

The 20” setup is for summer since I’m mostly on pavement. Stiffer ride, better cornering, negligible mpg increase and looks a little cooler.

The 18” setup is for winter. Definitely more bounce/cushion but it’s more comfortable imo, the extra sidewall helps with obstacles, and it helps my confidence to drive over stuff.

If I had to pick one option I’d go with 18” for better wheel protection, cushier ride and ability to go 285 or 295/70 at some point.

Looks, comfort, and ability to air down put me on 18" wheels. I hate the rubber band look and it's not a sports car so the handling benefits of a rigid ride are a waste.

18” for the ride quality and less vibration and balance issues. Lots of available tire sizes. Won’t be off-roading much in the new Tundy. Old Tundy has 16”. It’s the hunting rig now. Although I do like the look of a 20” wheel.

18” are better in every way I’m aware of besides looks. If you think bigger wheels look better. I think smaller wheels look better

18's without a doubt, unless you are mall crawling. I ran 20's on my prior tundra's and my 19 for a bit, switched out to 17's and will never go back

Your tires are the first form of suspension to hit the road. More sidewall equals a smoother ride. 18s came on my truck but I'd like to get 17s not only for the smoother ride, but because tires are cheaper for 17" wheels than 18" wheels. At least in my case. BFG KO2 A/T for an 18" is about $320. Same tire in 17" is about $266. I plan on keeping my truck for a long time. So it would be cheaper in the long run to get 17" wheels and tires.
