Like my grandmother's recipes that say things like "cook it until it's jam".

Funny to think about the things mom and pops fed us then see how the kids react to eating something a “little different”. My parents grew up on Guam so lots of things out of the can which still works well on occasion today! One of my favorites that I still get down with is pork and beans. Can of pork and beans add spam over white rice, these days we add cabbage to make it feel healthy. Is there a latch key kid recipe thread? I got gourmet with the microwave back in the day!

    I remember having Cinnamon Toast.

Toast the bread, lots of butter melted on it, then sugar and cinnamon to cover the top. Loved it as a kid, but good grief that's a lot of sugar. Surprised I wasn't diabetic at age 8.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
    LOL evidently. Hahah.

Seriously lack of maintenance, and overworking the equipment probably is the culprit.

That was a staple after school. Sometimes the cinnamon sugar was as thick as the actual piece of bread!
I tried it a few years ago for nostalgia sake and almost gagged. Way too much sugar!

I completely agree about the sugar tolerance. Remember those giant plastic pixie sticks we used to basically inhale? :eek2:

I was raised by my Mexican grandmother...a LOT of the foods I loved as a kid were not explained to me until I was an adult.

Apparently I used to love "Lengua" in any form. I will NOT even touch cow tongue as an adult.

Tripe is another one that I can only stomach (ha!) sometimes. I'll cook my menudo with the honeycomb lining of cow stomach, but I usually wont eat it.

I used to eat pork rinds as a kid when my father brought home a slab of bacon and cut it up into bacon chunks and pork rinds.

Found a nipple on one as I recall and asked my father what we were eating. Once I found out, I never went back.

I never had a complete chicken or pig in my life to cut up and eat. Maybe if I was exposed to it early in life it wouldn't be such a big deal.

I prefer to stay ignorant to how my food is procured and prepared.

I still make that once in a blue moon as a treat. I make 2 pieces, cut into 4 squares just like dad made for me as a kid. I get all settled in an start enjoying my first of 8 delectable squares of diabetes. Did I say 8? More like 6, because The Woman always comes along and steals a couple.

"Hey, fuck off. I'll make you your own."

"Oh, I can never eat a whole piece. Just 1/4 or 1/2."

"So I'll make you one you can throw out what you don't eat."

"I don't want to waste the food. Can't you just share yours?"

"No. This is mine. Get your own"

    *off she goes to pout*

I guess that's something for the what makes me angry thread, sharing my food. Everytime in a restaurant too. I order burger and fries. She/somone else orders a burger and salad.

"Oh, can I have a few fries?"

"Fuck off. If you want fries, order fries"

"But I can't/don't want to eat that many"

"I don't care. Fuck off. Get your own"

    *begin pouty silence*

I fully understand why wolves and other animals snarl and bite at anyone or anything that comes near a kill when they're eating.

I laughed out loud reading this one. Thank you for brightening my day.

I also noticed that even though you quote your self as telling her to FO, you also state that you only get 6 pieces. You may have to edit as suggested above.

Part of running a successful harem is the ability to make sacrifices. I'll tell her to fuck off then give her two pieces. Then I go make some more for myself

I picked up a bag of the Hawaiian style onion rings (think funyuns but not so salty).

It brought me back in time to when I was maybe 8 years old. One of my friends in the neighborhood, Chad, always had the good snacks at his house. My house had none so I hung out at his house a lot. He had a hot mom by the way, oddly her name was Billie. I came in one day and smelled something unusual, she brought a tray out of the oven and set it on the coffee table. Chad and his brother dug in, I hesitated trying to figure out what it was. It was funyuns that she heated up in the oven. Chad was eating them with hot sauce and his brother Cole was dunking his in ketchup. I grabbed one, examined it, ate it with no condiments. I liked them. They way they were served seemed like a delicacy to me at the time.

Now looking back, maybe Billie was a little nuts serving those things baked with ketchup  but she was hot so who cares. They moved to Kansas when I was 9, never got to see her again.

My mom used to put mayonnaise on sweet peas. Ate that for years growing up. Chicken and rice with a side of peas with mayonnaise. I always thought it was normal. Now, not so much… lol

The list was too long so I'll just throw out what would probably be considered the oddest by today's standards.

    Dandelion greens salad.

Fried squirrel. Be careful not to chip your teeth on the shotgun pellets.

Homemade scrapple (look that one up).

Frog legs. Grampa actually dangled a fly from a fishing rod in front of the bull frog hole to catch them. Never seen anyone else catch them that way.

Snow ice cream. Snow, sugar, and vanilla. Yum.

    Lots of other delectable treats.

Great thread. Really enjoyed reading them all

We grew up eating what was served. I don't ever remember saying no and getting something else .
I ate tons of lunch meat sandwich with sour cream and onion chips on it. Smash it all together.

    Fish stick sandwich.

Hot dogs cut up into pork n beans.

    Braunswager with cheese and mayo.

One of my favorites is potroast on bread with Mayo

Chili with beans and noodles. I know this will blow some of your minds.

You from the midwest? In Milwaukee, that was how it was served - over spaghetti noodles, a layer of beans, and then piled with onions and cheese
