thanks man I appreciate it! I used to off road a bunch when I was 16. I had a 88 cherokee. then I had a 86 datsun b210. Believe it or not, I wheeled the sht outta that thing. It was a sedan with a solid axle leaf spring rear. Had like 80 hp. Building the truck and going balls deep into this hobby has been one of the best experiences in my life so far.

In the '70's I had a Datsun 510. Bought a book at the checker auto on modifications for off-road rally racing. Found front struts "engineered for take off and landing characteristics" added wider rear wheels on rims from a 240Z. Kicked ass and went where a lot of 4x4s couldn't or wouldn't. Now I'm old and slow

Take a short (6') pc of pipe and run a chain through it wrapped around the bumper pipe and the tow vehicle. Then use your come along to take out the slack

Talk to me about that leaf pack....
It almost extends to the bumper. Something you made or bought, what did you have to do in conjuction to make it fit?

Those are Deaver Springs I96 leafs packs. I did a spring under axle conversion and bedcage. the longer leafs means I can pull 17" suspension travel and the bedcage is needed to strengthen the frame and mount the bypasses

Are you sold on the Deaver pack. I've been looking at Alcan and Deaver and haven't decided. I'm carrying about the same amount of weight as you but not on a regular basis. The summer it's pretty heavy all summer with Bedrack, RTT, gear, recovery, etc....

I'm not avidly skilled as you in the fab department so the mods you've done are above my pay grade. Any suggestions would be great.

I've run Alcan mid travel leafs with +800 lbs weight capacity. Those were good packs for carrying weight off road. I sold them to @dragos28 and they are still going strong. @n2deep is running mid travel deaver leafs with additional weight capacity and his work well too.

With leaf packs everything is a compromise. They only ride nice within a narrow weight range, like 200-400lbs. Too light and they are bouncy, too heavy and they ride the bump stops.

So, if you had to choose between the two next time. I'm thinking of going with +500 because I'm not always riding fully loaded and I'm more road than off road...by alot

Go with the alcans, I believe they are a little cheaper.

I'm a huge fan of the Plano 68qt bins. They fit perfectly between the seat legs in the back of my DC, and I can stack at least 3 w/o blocking the window. Plus for $20~ can't beat the price. #BallinOnABudget

p.s. you can fit 3 ammo cans into them. :D
