This may have need discussed or not but I recently purchased the 22 Tundra and it came with a year subscription for the remote start. I tried it earlier from the first time. I turned the truck on and as soon as I walked up and attempted to open the door the vehicle shut off. Is this normal? I see no benefit to it.

That's why I never bother remote start at all, it's annoyingly stupid.
Just to prevent the ultra unlikely event that someone breaks into the car that's remotely started and drives off?? They could have just add another check sequence:
    1. car remotely started
    2. if door unlocked by proximity sensor, keep the engine on: the normal situation that's like 99.9% of the situation
    3. if door unlocked but no proximity key sensed, shut off the engine: someone brute forced their way into the car and shutting off the engine is justified.
I don't see how anybody can defeat that

That is one thing that Toyota has to change!!!! It is utterly stupid!!!! The factory remote start and our Yukon AT4 and 2500 HD do not shut off when you unlock or open the door. You can get in with it running, hit the start button, put it in drive and pull away. There is no possible way there is any theft protection or any benefit to it shutting off when you open the door.

I really wish a Toyota would get away from that.......

it has been like this for a long time, since my 200x highlander. it will take Toyota another 40 years (if they are still around) to fix this.

For me the main benefit of remote start is to warm up the car when it’s freezing outside. So I’m not too upset about this but still it makes no sense.
