Finally got my BX Built headlights for my 2005 AC. The install seems somewhat straight forward, but there is one two prong connection on each headlight that does not line up to anything I am seeing from the wiring I got from BX Built or factory items.

Anyone install these that might be able to help? See picture.

I think you are the first to use BX built. I will try to help as much as possible.

    These are projectors? Yes?

Looks like the shutter wire that opens/closes the shutter for high beams. I had a set of projectors purchased from @SouthPaw which used a very similar wire set up.

Contact customer support at BX built and see if they forgot to include an adapter harness. Worst case scenario, you strike up a deal with @SouthPaw for just his H4 harness.

I just got mine installed over the weekend. Will post pictures on my Build Page later. You have a lot more wires than I do, did you get the RGB's?

Anyway, that plug should have came with your harness. Both lights have that clip. You may want to hit up Daniel and make sure you received everything.

I'll post my output either tonight or tomorrow but here's what it looks like in the parking lot. I didn't ask for the TRD projector, I actually don't like it since my truck isn't a TRD.

As for output, they're nice and bright. The projector makes the light nice and crisp. A lot better than the stock housing with a LED. For those who think that you can just pop in a regular H4 lamp, it's not going to work. BX uses an actual LED projector that is powered by a LED driver.

These photos were taken at 531pm. My iPhone makes the pictures look brighter, anyway, the 2nd photo is low beams and the 3rd is Hi beams. Last one I took while driving.

Glad I stumbled on this thread. Was about to fork over $400 bucks for replacement oem headlight housings for my 06 sequoia... Probably better off doing something like this.

    @jskeyes2

Did you figure out the issue?

@bmc02 If you're interested in the stock OEM style light, than you may want to check out Rockauto or Ebay. There's a bunch of aftermarket lights for cheap.

I've seen the aftermarket Chinese housings on Amazon/eBay. I've heard they are not always a great fit and aftermarket housings have inferior reflectors... But given the price difference maybe they are worth a shot.

I was totally unaware of these bx kits. They look good. Just wish their website was better, I'm not very informed on LED headlights and I have a bit of homework to do.

I found out about them on here. I forgot who but someone with a FJ has a set and they love them. I'm pretty happy with them too. I would give BX a call. Their customer service is amazing.

These look incredibly brighter than OEM or any other bulb upgrade I've seen. I have upgraded halogens which have been definitely better than OEM but still not super bright. Do you feel like visibility has been GREATLY improved?

I wish I knew more about all the 'New To Me' headlight technology . . . I know, they've been out a long time, but I'm old and an out of the loop crusty f'er.

HID's, Projectors, Halo's, RGB's, Switchback, Drivers . . . might as well be talking another language. Does anyone have a link that explains the basics for a clueless person like myself?

One question I have is, how is the estimated lifespan on the BX headlights ? And when one goes out, what's the process to replace the 'Bulb/Diode' etc. in the event of failure ?

Also, I read on their website under 'care and installation' it states . . .
"Stay away from drive through car washes and pressure washers. We apply an outer seal as
well as an inner seal. The high pressure water is known to tear it. Also the mist can enter your
headlights via the projector tube opening in the back".

I always hand wash myself, and live in So Cal so weather conditions are very mild . . . are these lights 'fragile' compared to OEM ? . . . would it be best to bag them off when cleaning the engine compartment ?

Sorry for all the newb questions . . . these lights are very appealing, but at the upper-end of my pocket book, just wanna get as much intel as I can.

    TIA

I can't speak to those exact lights, but any retrofit in general has to have the seal broken and a new butyl seal applied. There is always a chance that may leak, slim chance at best. The plug on the back of oem lights has a rubber boot to keep moisture out, I have not seen that any retrofits do. I did my own retrofit and trimmed the oem rubber boots so that my connector has a seal around it.

I've been running my retrofit set that I did myself for several years without any trouble. Through lots of car washes (the gas station ones which we should avoid, the pressure washer ones that you use quarters at, and regular home washing) without a bit of trouble.

I had my wife drive my truck around the local college parking lot. I had her drive about 200 yards towards me and they weren't blinding me. I even kneeled down to get a cars perspective.

I'm also curious on the life span of the BX lights. They were not cheap and I hope the last a long time. Not sure if you're familiar with a HID set up. You get a lamp, a harness and ballast. BX has the same set up but instead of a lamp, the LED is built into the light. So if the diode goes bad, you're screwed and you'll have to send the light to BX and have them fixed it (hoping they're still in business). The light comes with a LED driver, kind of like a ballast. If that goes bad, you can easy replace that, you'll have to buy one from BX or maybe aftermarket.

As for the seal, the OEM is broken, they take the internals out and put in the LED then seal it all back up.

The down side to BX is that they don't use a H4 lamp. So if the light does out, you can't just pop a new lamp it. I really wish they offered that set up.

I would consider doing a retro fit light like @Darkness. I might attempt doing a set on my spare head lights.

When did you order? We ordered a set for a 2001 4Runner in May and we’re still waiting. And no updates except when we check in. Kinda hard to keep the love alive.

I ordered mine on March 19th 2021. I also ordered a set for my 04 Tacoma on May 5th 2021. Still waiting for those to come in.

Have you emailed them for an update? I know they had some set backs, moving, COVID and shipping issues. If you follow them on Instagram, they have updates.
