I have a 2015 SR5 that I love. I recently went on vacation and used a rental that had Apple car play. Is there a way to add Apple car play to my truck without changing the stereo? I’m happy with the current stereo and head unit so if I don’t have to, I wouldn’t change anything. Suggestions??

As shawn474 noted, yes you have to change the Head Unit. I just installed a Sony XAV-AX150 , they run around 4 to 5 hundred depending where you look, but a simple install, for me! Apple CarPlay really works well, controls the phone, music, the maps, it might be well worth your time to do an upgrade. There are cheaper units with Car Play, but I like Sony. Good Luck, Santa's showing up soooon, mayyyyyybe.

There’s a company out there that makes some kind of adapter that will give you CarPlay using your stock head unit. Not sure how good it is but hey at least you have an option. Try a google search “add CarPlay to stock head unit” something like that good luck.

There was one company that I heard of that had a unit to maintain stock radio. It is called something like nifty city……..but the cost of the unit was stupid expensive. In the $750 to $1000 range I believe, which at that point you could save money by getting a newer (and better) head unit with the Carlinkit wireless CarPlay adapter.

Mine is 15 SR5/XP. I got my iPad mounted on dash. There are 2 connectivities such as BT and AUX cable. Can this be an alternative solution? iPad mini might be a better solution..

Amazon has this, but as noted, you might as well keep the existing speakers, add a decent HU and save money. But, this is worth at least taking a look at! With Amazons return policy, you could try it, not like it, always send it back and RETURN IT!!

    just threw stuff at it
Beat-Sonic, Naviks, and NVC all make Carplay integration kits that plug into the rear of the headunit. Last I checked all of them were $600+ for a box and wiring. At that point might as well swap the headunit, personally went with a Dasaita android headunit but there's a lot of low cost name brand headunits too that'll give just carplay if that's the only thing you want.

    It's good
Get the sony XAV-AX any model.
Perfect and fast car play. I was so impressed with the connectivity of my son's XAZ-AX1000, I put it in mine. That one is discontinued, AX5000 or similar.

I have an 18 and have procrastinated on this for years.

I’m expecting Santa-wife will drop a Maestro and either a Kenwood or Pioneer HU under the tree based on my endless griping and texting product specs at her.

I already upgraded to a sub, 5ch amp, and all new speakers, so hopefully this upgrade will turn the dials to “11”.
