Toyota doesn't offer an OEM canoe rack for the 3rd gen Tundra and according to this video there isn't a mounting location on the roof of the cab? There's one available for the 2022 Tacoma.
I must be an idiot because I just assumed there would either be an OEM canoe rack or an opportunity to install an aftermarket rack, at the very least. I'm done with using either foam blocks or those racks that clip onto the door frame.
I'm considering a 2.5 or 3rd gen Tundra for our next tow vehicle and must have the ability to transport either two 11' kayaks or one 16' canoe, plus have a functioning tonneau cover to protect all of our camping gear in the bed.
My 2012 Tacoma has an OEM canoe rack and I've never owned a 1/2 ton. Am I an idiot for assuming? LOL

The truck literally just came out. It takes us months to get a truck and do all our designing, test fits and crash test rate. I can't speak for other roof rack manufactures because we are the only ones in USA that adhere to crash test ratings.

On my '08, I am installing a Rhino Rack Backbone on the truck with tracks on the canopy and putting Pioneer platforms on both. They have Pioneer platforms on clearance, so I took advantage of the $400+ savings on each one.
Installation requires drilling and adding rivnuts. Highly recommend using drill bit stops and dropping the headliner to put a piece of steel sheet or something else between the roof and airbags to protect them while drilling if you install something that requires holes in the roof.
