Drove down to the Outer Banks last week from NJ. Truck did extremely well in the sand (super fun) at the 4x4 Beach at Carova where no permit is required.

There's some Spanish Mustangs that live over the dunes and hang out on the beach.

Love OBX, great place, great people and want to go back sometime soon.

    Here's a few pics

Incredible pictures! A must see! Make sure you pressure wash all that salty sand off that beautiful truck.

Looks like a cool storm. Just FYI, Currituck County just passed a new law requiring beach drivers to air down to 20 PSI max. Doesn't bother me, I drop to 15-18 always. But they have said they will be giving tickets to people that are stuck and not aired down.

Good to know for the future. I aired down after I took that pic to be on the safe side once I got off the wet sand. Did see someone in a Hyundai AWD stuck as soon as they hit the soft sand at the entrance... :p they never even made it to the wet sand

That's probably the biggest issue down there. I've seen anything from vettes to mini vans trying to get on the beach and get stuck at the ramp, blocking access for everyone else. Guess they can't read the 10 foot sign. Still a great place to be. And those two storm pics are really good, hard to capture that.

I had a few great vacations there on the 4x4 beaches. Went with 10 or 15 friends and rented some of the big houses 8 miles up the beach. Time of my life, I had my tacoma then and it was great. I pulled a BMW x5 and a Mercedes bluetech over the dunes one night after they both got stuck.
Slowly we stopped going as we all had kids. Hope to get back soon as the kids start to get older.
First pic was taken from the deck of the pool.
Those horses were in the yard where we stayed almost every morning. You could also see pods of dolphin swimming by every morning. It's a beautiful place.

Great pics!! It's a cool place for sure. There were nine of us and we rented a house in Corolla. Saw dolphins every morning too. The people we went with go there every year so depending on travel plans next year would love to go there again

The local sheriff's were pretty hot on vehicles to keep moving along and not getting stuck!

    That is just awesome!

Now isn't there a story about the horses on the beach, from a war era or something?

They date back to the late 1500's. Supposedly a shipwreck of colony supplies near shore allowed them to swim to the beach. Along with some pigs too. I remember many feral hogs were there maybe 15-20 years ago. There's still a lot of feral hogs just north of there in Virginia Beach.

Great pictures! You're getting me pumped for our Trip at the end of June. This will be our third year down there (all in Nag's Head). I love it down there.

Looks awesome. We are headed there in 3 weeks. Now I wish my truck would be ready in time to take it down from Philadelphia so I can go on the beach with it! Sienna (no beach) will have to do, but looks great!
