(not to be confused with THORYOTA's Mjölnir Build, although, I'm jealous and respectful of some of those mods by a fellow "Thor")

First time posting - long time lurker (and SO grateful to all the members here for posting your mods, pics and details).

Wanted to capture the methodical updates to my 2018 CrewMax SR5, with the TSS package.

I owned a 2005 CrewMax SR5 until 2014 - when the waterpump broke while driving a huge rainstorm. And, the temperature gauge/sensor got stuck...so I drove about 50 miles with no water. Needless to say, the engine warped. That and gas prices and how much I was driving...caused me to downsize. And for four years - I sucked it up but NEVER stopped loving that truck. Until my wife found this 2018 online one day...

Purchased it in March '18, online through Toyota of Fort Worth. I didn't make it easy on Ruben (we worked for almost a month to get the truck I wanted - this one - at the price I needed). But I would definitely recommend them, great folks, not pushy, and very responsive - that's my experience.

And I LOVE everything about this truck, from day 1 (the mods/additions are just to "make it mine" or keep up with the technology since you have to admit, some of these basic SR5 models are lacking) - and I plan on driving this forever.

I've attached the PDF for the full specs/deal from the start, but will list here what I've done since (in no particular order). I'll post an individual reply for each.
    --------------------------------

Mods/updates (through 12/2022). All updates are documented, unless they're extremely simple to install.:

Installed (not necessarily in this order)
    Purchased, pending install

    Planned (wish list)

    • Diode Dynamics Grille-Mount LED Light Bar ($500)
      • I'm not an off-roading type of guy, so I don't need all THAT much extra light up front, but I do like the 30" bar at the bottom and how that looks - and the functionality it brings. Will get the Optic White Combo style.
    --------------------------------
Pictures below (2) are the day I brought her home and parked it the driveway for the first time.

WeatherTech Floorliner HP mats, front and back

    https://www.weathertech.com/toyota/...storage/no/tundra-floor-type/carpet-flooring/
    $225.00

What can I say…worth the investment. My only gripe is that the front passenger mat will NOT stay put. The “claw” feet provided just aren’t enough.

    ----------------------

    Update:

So, after a bit of trial - and error - I believe I have my front passenger WeatherTech floor mat secure, and it won't be slipping out anytime soon. It was a challenge, but I'm no quitter!!!

So, I ordered the Eagle Klaw (link above) floor mat grips. Solidly made, and their install instructions are spot on. I say that, because it specifically states:

WARNING! Make sure the car floor has sufficient padding or space under the carpet at the place of Eagle Klaw anchor installation before making holes in the mats.

Well, I know there was padding/space, even if it's thin and compressible, under the passenger carpet. But the first time through, I honestly didn't think it through. I followed the instructions, the Klaws appeared to be holding the mat just fine, so I thought that was it.

3 days later, my wife had successfully dislodged the mat. Not that she's to blame, because as soon as I looked at the dislodged mat and the claws, I saw why (see pics below of old claws). I didn't provide the necessary ADDITIONAL padding/space, to secure the Klaw into the carpet itself. On that note, I'll start from the beginning and work through the complete process (minus my previous error).

I did NOT want to drill additional holes in my WeatherTech (WT) mats. Paid too much money to punch a new hole through them in a different location. The challenge: the default holes in the mats are meant for WT's cheap-ass red "claws"... and those things are pitiful...useless...

So, I ended up using the pieces of the default claw kit, and modified them to integrate the Eagle Klaws (EK).

I removed the top 'cover' of the original WT clip, and drilled a hole through the center, just large enough for the EK screw to fit through. Note that the hole has to be big enough for the entire screw to go through and be flush, so a little bigger is "ok", but not too big that it will slide around once through the hole.

Next, the tricky part. The bottom red ring of the default WT claw - the one that snaps into the top, needs to be etched out with a carpet knife or something. As you can see by the close up below, I had to gouge out all of the compression clips, and I had to open it up as much as possible. Note 2 things:
    • The bottom of the red ring needs to be carved out so that the top of the EK claw itself, fits inside that ring.
    • To make this happen, you need to also create a small notch in the red ring, to accommodate the small notch that exists on the EK claw.

Again, they should fit together flush. You MUST make sure they are flush, otherwise there is NOT enough length in the EK screw, to start threading into the EK claw. But once you have made that room, the screw should thread into the claw (with some applied pressure) and allow for about 1 to 1 1/4 turns. It's snug... and should look clean:

Next - remember the warning up above - well, here's what I did to do it right. I found (well, let's give credit where it's due...my wife found them and asked "would these work"... there's yet another reason we've been together over 30 years), some circular padding, that is normally used to sit into deep cup holders in your car, to support/raise the bottom for smaller cans/cups. These pads are just under an inch thick, but anything that is as thick as the EK claws are long, will do. But I highly recommend something with limited compression. Using a softer padding, will most likely NOT work as effectively as you would like. My alternate was going to be to use a pool noodle, slide a piece off the end and fold in half. Alas, no need.

The pics above, are shown with first (failed) EK claws. Note how the teeth of those claws are broken off...from the installation gone wrong.

So, if you take the kickplate off, and unclip the plastic carpet holder...

And lift the carpet, you'll notice the primary reason why those broke. Hmm... seems Toyota had originally intended for there to be some kind of anchor going through those circular areas... but not on my SR5 Limited model!! There's another cut-out of the padding near the center as well (too dark and too tight to take a pic, but I could feel it).

Take the circular pads, and slide them under the carpet. Do your best to ensure they are under the EK claw, and the mat is exactly where you want it to "stick". Trying to get a lifted carpet to align with the mat/EK claws - so that when the pads aren't below it, is the intent. I got as close as I could, and again - followed the EK instructions... which honestly tell you to STOMP down on them as hard as you can. Then reach back under the carpet and pull out the pads. If you then carefully reach back under, you can feel that the EK claws are protruding all the way through the carpet/pad, which means they should stay!

I completed this install about 4 weeks ago, and it's been solid.

So, I hate the fact that other than the driver window, I couldn’t one-click the windows down. That hate was only surpassed by the fact that my driver window won’t automatically go up with one click.

With this upgrade, my hated is 100% abated.

Love this upgrade. The options with it are also amazing (IMHO).

When you exit the vehicle, one click to lock and the system will automatically roll up the back, then the front windows.

Hot day? Unlock+Lock+Unlock combo puts your windows down (front then back). Click lock at any time during the process to stop the windows going down.

Best of all, none of the lock/unlock sequences interfere with the remote starter.

Watching Gavin’s video helped a lot, but two things to note:
    https://youtu.be/JasNy3ewPIQ
    ○ Fishing the necessary power from the door into the main cabin, be sure you know how you’re going to feed it through the boot.
    ○ Getting that same power cable into the engine compartment to hook directly up to the battery is necessary. The firewall boot has a convenient “hole” at the bottom of it that perfectly allowed my feeder (a long zip tie) to make it through with only one slice being needed. But to have that “hole” protrude properly I had to stick a Phillips screwdriver from inside the cab, and wedge it with something (applying pressure) so that I could see exactly where I needed to slice (in the engine compartment).
    ○ Okay, three things: the video doesn’t show you how to secure the device to within the driver’s door, so once you take the door panel off, survey and figure out what’s best for you. Me? I happened to have some Velcro patches (adhesive one either side) and used that to hold the main device to the interior door panel, not the door itself. But you need to be sure where you put it, allows for the door panel to go back in without blocking anything, and also secure enough to get it from moving/rattling around.

    Justin’s video also helped:
    https://youtu.be/tbNHyfuHUrY

I recommend watching both so you can catch any caveats or gotchas.

Probably my most enjoyable and functional update. No extra fob required. Just three clicks of the lock button on your standard fob and off she starts!! Installing it was a breeze because all I needed to do was get behind/below the steering/dash. And for that it’s just the two screws and a pry of some clips.

The system itself connects/injects right into everything it needs, no hardwiring or splicing needed.

Get your zip ties ready, to secure it properly behind the dash.

Just remember - as with anything electrical, no matter how small - to disconnect the battery before you start your work.

I actually took off the center console and removed the plastic underneath, and routed out the circular area needed to make this fit. Then simply ran the usb cable down the back and into the center console cavity to a usb plug.

Yeah it’s a hack, it was my first mod I executed, not my finest (but it's clean). It works - and yes, there’s better options out there. Of course, none of these wireless chargers work on phones that have cases, so…there's that.

Truly love this add-on. Two person job when it comes to mounting the frame and the bedslide itself, though. Thought I was a tough guy and could handle it by myself. I did. And then spent the next two weeks visiting the chiropractor…

But if you want to keep valuables off the bed of the truck, and still allow you to remove the slide so you can use the whole bed if needed, this thing is a beauty. We don’t haul much (mostly my golf clubs and push cart, stroller, occasionally some load of something from Lowes). Hauled a washer & dryer on it not too long ago, made it a breeze to get on and off. And with the Tonneau cover (below), perfect combo.

    $40.00

Connected the lines to DRL (yellow lights, solid), Turn signals (yellow lights, sequential), Cargo light (white light) (thanks to @TravisJr for the guidance)

In the bundle of wires under the driver kick panel, there are 5 “pink-ish” wires. Take the largest, least reddish wire (on the far right in my picture). That’s the cargo wire on my 2018.

For simplicity of hooking up multiple lights to this, I hijacked off this wire and ran one lead out to where 6 other wires tap into that one (like the four interior lights mentioned above).

I ran the wires up through a grommet, that led directly under the kick panel on each side. To keep wires from pinching, I drilled through the hard, white cable guide, at the point of the grommet entry, so the wires fed right up into the channel.
    • Drivers side light, wire lead
    • Passenger side light, wire lead

Wire fed through grommet up into kickpanel area (bottom view):
    • Driver
    • Passenger

Small hole drilled through plastic, directly above grommet, to keep the wires from pinching:
    • Driver (same location on Passenger)

The next time I remove the driver/passenger side/kick panels, I'll take some additional pics and highlight which wires I found/connected to for the DRLs and Turn Signals. I did not want to wire all the way forward/back to the actual lights, so I found the wires internally.

Pretty straight forward install. Love all the function/options. Although, if I do it again I would make it 'removeable' (I used the 3M sticker) due to the fact it lays across the spare tire release hole. I spent the extra for the CURT replacement to keep from splicing wires around an area I knew would get a lot of dirt/moisture.

    Peragon Tonneau cover

    https://www.peragon.com/shop/covers/Toyota/Tundra/2018/T1-QC
    $1,000.00

My very first purchase (add-on) after buying the truck. I wanted something different. Had a hard cover one back on my old 2005 CrewMax, and while that was nice, I needed more flexibility. I wanted to be able to use the entirety of the bed without too much hassle.

My wife was the one who turned me on to Peragon. I found the flexibility in this design best aligned to my lifestyle with the truck. I can easily remove the folded cover within 2 minutes (and place that folded cover in the back of the cab).

The frame that holds and guides it is solid. It does take some time to get it “right” when installing, and you will need to adjust it after some mileage/bumps to make sure it still functions as smooth as it should.

Get the upgrade to the double lock.

    LED Cargo lights

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZLWJZLT?_encoding=UTF8

UPDATED - SEE BOTTOM OF THREAD

Fairly straight forward install. Again, I went with this model due to the on/off switch type, and honestly, I bought it with 3 lights when it went on sale (and was cheaper than the two light version).

Went to Lowes and bought 25 feet each of 16 gauge red and black wiring. Encased the wiring inside the plastic split tubing from the time it went down and out of the engine well until it ran up to the wheel well in the rear. Ground it the inside of the engine well, and ran the red directly to the battery.

I did have to cut/splice the on/off switch's cable, to run it through the standard little hole on the cargo sidewall, but it was straight forward to patch it back up.

My other action here was the indexing plunger. I did NOT want to take the chance of accidentally leaving the lights on the in cargo bay, with the tailgate closed. So while I initially though I would use a magnetic breaker, I decided on a more reliable and better fitting plunger.

I attached a tab to the tailgate (and actually used a pretty standard "L" bracket for this), and put a rubber cover over it so there were no sharp edges. I used that mark/spacing, to identify where to drill the hole side.

You can see by the picture, the placement of the plunger fit just right above the tailgate latch, and just below the top screw for the tail light.

I remove the tail light so I could get to the boxed in area behind the standard hole in the bed, and with all of that open space was able to run the negative (from the black) to the base of the plunger. I know, I could have just ground the light here, since it's metal/metal, but I wanted to be sure. Plus, I may just piggy back off the red/black, and install a small power inverter so I can have 120V in the rear of the truck.

Onward, I pulled/fed the cable for the passenger side through the same hole in the back.

After plugging things in and verifying the plunger worked as expected, I simply mounted the on/off switch with 2 metal screws and some velcro.

For the time being, I simply ran the LEDs up under the sides of the Peragon cover. Will secure them - pointing downward - when I have the opportunity.

    ----------------

Update (4/2022): So, before installing the above OEM Bed Rails, I removed the Peragon cover (to do some maintenance on it, and re-seat it due to it shifting after 4 years). I installed the rails, them before remounting the Peragon cover, I attached these lights to the bottom of the rails.

Two things I wished to have done differently.

    1) While these lights work amazingly, they're "too much". They are about 6 inches longer than the bed rails on the sides, and about 10 inches longer on the back bed rail. In the pics, you can see I "made it work" by attaching the end of the light towards the front of the bed, and the overhang I simply looped downward and attached to the bed itself. Not perfect, but in hindsight, I would have bought shorter light strings.

    2) I put the lights on, before putting the bed cover back on. And with the brackets that came with the Peragon cover, they have a lip at the bottom (that loops under the bed rail). Well, with the light strips there... it limited the ability/ease to raise the bed. Again, it wasn't critical, as I was able to prybar up the cover from the rail to get the bed cover seated correctly.

    Liking the clean look, though...

    Seat Warmer Installation

    KBD Universal Seat Heater Kit

So, I executed this install back in November 2021 and just now getting around to finish putting my details together. And I was going to make a huge "post" about it... but figured it would be best served as a document. So, without taking up too much space in this post itself, please find attached my PDF version of "Seat Warmer Installation".

I sincerely hope this helps someone!

Thanks @Kes811! Funny you should say that, as after most of my updates I do have a short video of it on my phone. Maybe it's time for a collage...

You're inspiring! ;) I've got the front camera, FRAC and lighted window replacement controllers to knock out first, then I'll put my best radio voice to work on the narrative video.

Your wireless charger…is strong enough to charge through the plastic cover? How’s the speed on the charge?

If I take my phone out of the case (it's not a magsafe capable case, plus it has a 'ring' attached to it), then yes.

Hey when you converted your gas tank did you came across any issues? Fitments ( direct fit?) electrical issue such as the gauges (able to tack empty to full and miles per gallon indicator) thanks!

So are the amber lights always on when your driving? How does it look? Im worried about it looking too "street glowy" and might only use the turn signal and courtesy light

@Kes811 - I never converted by gas tank. Maybe a different thread from someone else?

Yes, when the doors are closed, they're yellow. I did it that way because I wanted there to be some light down there when I remote-start, and walking up to the vehicle in the dark. When I open the door, obviously, they turn white. As for the 'street glowy' - I personally don't think they're too flashy. Since the lights are mounted so that they point out to the sides, at the steps, they're not "glowing" off the street. And honestly I don't consider the yellow as bright/flashy, as the white.

Personal preference, is all. I've heard from others they don't bother with hooking them up to the DSL (probably for that same reason). I think the pic I have (of the yellow) above appears bright (now that I've looked at it again). Plus - I'm always driving, so I'm not really paying attention to how flashy it may appear - don't even know if I'm pimpin' or not... :)

Ill probably hook it up and if I dont like it, Ill cut it. What side does the sequential start on the strip? The side with the wires or the other side? I want the turn signal to start at the back of the truck and go forward. Thanks for all the info btw

I wired mine the opposite - meaning when my turn signal is on, it starts lighting from the front of the vehicle (the wired end of the strip) and move to the back of the vehicle. The wires come off the strip at the front of the vehicle. Hope that clarifies my setup.
