Just got word from my dealer that the spray in liner has been nixed on my order. Per the dealer's email from either the factory or SET...

"The Spray-in has not passed our quality standards yet so we had to remove that accessory code. We are hoping to have it launched by February but it's hard to say at this point. Since the new Tundra has a composite bed vs the previous Tundra was sheet metal, getting the material to adhere appropriately is a process our installers are trying to figure out."

LOL...thats pretty funny, they didn't think that the previous bed liner material they used was not going to stick to plastic very well....I have been curious how that was gonna go since I saw that option.

The bed liner was really kind of a waste of money anyway on the composite bed. Put a bed mat down if your worried about sliding and call it good. Its worked for years with other trucks with composite beds.

It was a factory installed option I couldn't drop, I won't miss it or the cost.

With a composite bed just get a bed rug and call it a day.

If you are going to haul dirt and stuff often then get a heavy rubber bed mat instead.

My 2007 Tacoma bed is plastic.. is this composite bed significantly more slippery then a plastic bed? I have never had a issue. If you I don’t want stuff to be able to slide around I just tie it down.

The composite in my Tacoma feels like it is like ice with a gas can or anything else that is plastic. Before the mat, I strapped things in.

If that’s the case I will do my best to not get any mat or bed liner. It’s not a big deal. The way I drive if it won’t slide then it will roll anyway.

I could see that for a guy who uses it as a work truck. I would never drive with anything sliding around in the back no matter what it is. It would drive me nuts.

Something seems a bit fishy with that email..... Maybe throughput is bad so they are removing the option from some trucks.

Seems odd. Spray in liners being used typically to prevent rust and paint durability. Composite being at risk for neither of those. I dont know why anyone would be concerned with it. Tacoma beds dont really have any issue in this department.

Probably a mistake carry over from the last gen.

They offer the spray in bed liner as an option for those people that are concerned about the composite bed being too slippery and not wanting to resolve the issue using a bed mat.
I believe that the composition of the composite material can change and perhaps it has for the 3rd gen and they just recently found out that the the existing spray in bed liner is no longer compatible. I expect this would be an issue that Toyota would easily resolve in due time.

What kind of composite bed is this?

I recall a Chevy commercial showing if you drop a tool box in Ford's bed, it will poke a hole in it.

iirc, Ford did that to reduce weight.

The same one that's been in the Tacoma for years, I believe. They make aircraft parts and boats out of it also.

Yep, fiber reinforced. Honestly I loved it in the Tacoma, it never gets as cold to the touch as steel did, reduced weight as well. But as others noted, its like ice slick without a bedmat.
