    Hi all,

Looking to buy the 2022 Tundra and I'm completely new to Toyota as in I never owned one. Jeep not comfortable to me (had 2 already) highway noise is unreal, the Raptor is better for Baja/Dessert not off road (had the 2010), Tacoma too small for towing and back seat room (dad had one and also a TUNDRA which was so much better), and don't want a Dodge or Chevy.

The trim levels I'm interested in are off-road, so I am NOT looking at the TRD Pro, but the TRD Off-road packages (correct me if I am wrong here?). Looking at the Limited grade with the TRD Off road package with most options, the all weather floor liners, locking wheel bolts, spray in bed liner, and lockbox in center armrest.

Any other options you as a Tundra owner wish they had NOT bought or HAD bought from factory? I will be adding larger tires on the 18's, probably 35s or 37s for more ground clearance once I figure out what I need to do (mod to the fenders and/or different suspension and/or possible re-gear).

I also want the new iForce Max with the larger HP/Torque output but do not see it on the any of the models current listed on the build configurator on Toyota website. I will be using it in heavy snow, off-road, and hauling lots of stuff. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong on the website? Only see the base 3.5 as an option. Is that March 2022 when the TRD Pro is released?

Thanks in advance. Any other advice for a prospective Tundra owner is welcome.

(Thread posted in toyotanation forums, but received nothing so far...)

Make sure to use 4L and crawl control when in mud for the best off road experience.

Well, I don't think we know what is required to install 35" or 37" on the upcoming model. The previous generation required you to grind off part of the front cab mount AKA: Cab Mount Chop or Body Mount Chop. The upcoming TRD PRO will have the hybrid power but I haven't seen how to build that option on Toyota's website yet either. Good luck to you. The wait for a new Tundra will take you into 2023 if you haven't already Reserved one (or unwilling to pay $20k ADM). Also, don't get White (slowest color).

The Tundra is unlikely to be any better offroad than a Raptor, so if you're buying solely off of that requirement and think the Tundra will somehow outperform your previous vehicles, I would reconsider.

By best offroad experience, I assume you mean getting stuck and needing someone to pull you out?

Well we do know what will be required for 35" tires. The upcoming dealer accessory Factory 3" Lift that is calibrated to work with all sensors etc. You just have to until sometime next summer (or later) until its really available.

Pretty sure a dealership leveled a 22 and put 35s on it. So you may not need a lift.

No hybrid until at least March.

If the “skid plates” for the TRD off road package are similar to the 21s they are pretty much throw away.

I think they are putting the Pro front skid on now. But yes, the rest are likely plastic like the old ones.

i think this is true only for the Limited + TRD Off-road. The SR5 + TRD Off-road has 18” wheels.

Appears you are correct. The thought of an off-road package with 20” wheels makes me :frusty:

YEP! I have a deposit on an SR5 TRD, but I really want to switch to a limited to pick up some other options, and probably shift to the hybrid engine. But man, that just means I’m gonna have to spend additional money to swap out the wheels for 18”ers. Hopefully I can find some poor sucker who wants 20 inch takeoffs.

I know it has been a while, but I'm in the market for a Tundra...why do people feel this way about 20" wheels?

More sidewall = better when off roading to avoid flats and chinging wheels.

    skip to 11:45 in.

So for something like driving on a muddy ass roadway jobsite (not that worried about tires being punctured), this might not be as big of a deal? I've probably logged over 100k miles of basically driving in the mud professionally, but always in a company fleet truck with basic AT tires on.

I have a ‘20 limited off road, I love it. If I had it to do over again today, and assume there was plenty of inventory, I’d probably have gotten a trd pro, or if not, a platinum. If I got the pro I’d probably just run the stock suspension on 35s, and the platinum price difference isn’t too much for painted trim and cooled front seats.
If you’re looking at the ‘22, better go sit in one, I did and I think I’m OUT on wanting one. Me and my buddy who are both toyota nuts have been calling them the “tacoma+”. It’s like a midsize plus, almost like the 1st gen tundra. Better make sure that’s what you’re looking for. My next one may be an f150, Titan, or 3/4 ton, I’m not looking to downsize any.
Also If you’re looking to upgrade to the hybrid motor, my dealer told me that’s probably going to be a $7-10k option

More sidewall provides potential for extra cushion over rough terrain - as you said - tread pattern will be more important than sidewall if strictly dealing with mud.

The pricing for the hybrids is out and it's about $3400 more than the regular.

You and your dealer are idiots.. pricing has been confirmed on the hybrid for weeks and it is $3400, so half of their lowest number.

Run the same tire as the Raptor or Bronco Sasquatch. They are tuned in for the lighter halfton market.

Or get a 3/4 ton Ford and run the 37.

Nope. It's not the Pro plate. In one of the many threads it was brought up and a video was posted showing it is not the Pro skid.

Very disappointing considering how much they charge for the TRD package on the new gen.

Wasn't cheap on the 2.5 Gen either, but had upgraded headlights, fog lights, skids (sad ones), and slightly upgraded suspension. At least on the 3rd gen they are adding traction modes and a locking rear diff to the package. I'd take those over Pro skid anyway.

It was only $100 on 2017 on my Limited so I’m out of touch. Keep telling myself I’m getting an E locker but not until I can’t make it some place I want to go… still trying to find that spot.

So you don’t think a dealer might charge more for that option ? They already charge market adjustment without the hybrid .
