Might have to go check those out today after work! Is it just me, or does it look like they squashed the white Taco in the back??

To be honest I was surprised by the outcome. I figured we'd have to wait until the hybrid version for this result.

0-60 in the 7-8 range isnt that impressive to me really, plus the 18 highway he got.

why did they not make a V8 again? lol.

I know I know , it wasn't broken in yet.

Ill still test drive one though and see how I like the truck, I don't race anyways

I still don't understand the complains with the mpg. He got 18.4 while interstate driving at 75 mph the whole way. That's a significant increase from previous gen.

Me too…a raptor on 37’s is slow compared to the GM 6.2 and a regular f150 on street tires.

Sure hope this new tundra tows like a peterbilt and rides great, cause damn, it sure is middle of the pack on everything else and costs just as much.

They didn’t mention if they put it in sport mode or tow haul. The truck king guys did a 0-60 and got something like 6.7

I dont really care about MPG a ton, but when its rated for 22, 18 is underwhelming as a first real world data point, 75 isnt that fast.

in that case the 5.7 should get 12-13 highway

but we will see as time goes along.

I would rather have 6.2 iForce V8 10 speed with tow hooks sacrificing a touch of MPG, just my .02

I’m sure you understand trucks aren’t rated for 75 mph uphill driving right? Drop that to flat at 55 I’m sure 22+ is achievable.

ya I get it, Im just bitter about a 3.4 V6 TT right now, lol. MPG isn't at the top of my list as concerns obviously, I bought a 5.7 tundra which is a pig.

I will test drive to see if Im buying or not, thankfully GMC still makes a large V8 6.2 if I don't like the test drive.

A buddy of mine has their smaller motor and was just saying how he's super happy he didn't get the 6.2 because of all the lifter issues. Apparently their forums/FB groups are full of issues on them.

What are you trying to prove here? That 20 mpg is achievable during short intervals and efficient driving? No one is saying that it's not possible to achieve those numbers on previous gen, but eventually you will regress to the mean and it will be closer to 15 mpg.

ya, Im aware, Ill see where things are at later after I test drive the tundra and also the biggest thing is how to fit that damn thing in the garage.

The 6.2s Ive driven were pretty awesome, so Im not all that worried about it.

Not exactly. I'm not saying there are no gains to be had in the MPG department, but on highway driving I routinely get about 17.4mpg or so, keeping it around 70mph.

Of course, most of my driving is mixed; but even still, I'm averaging 16.5mpg right now. My guess is that the bigger gains will be had in city/mixed driving.

That's more attributable to your personal driving style then. If you are seeing 2-3 over the EPA rating in previous gen, then I can almost guarantee you will see the same in 2022 models. EPA testing is extremely consistent across the board. It cannot factor the many variables that lead to mpg in real world use, but it does show a direct comparison between models in the exact same test.

Those weren't short interval efficient trips. Just regular Interstate driving. The longer one that was down to 15 MPG was either the trip down to or back from Ouray/Telluride. My point is that 18 MPG isn't impressive enough to worry about.

I usually get better than average MPG, so let's say you're correct that 15 MPG is the average for the 2.5. That's mostly on trucks with upgraded tires, small lifts, or other odds and ends. That's a 3 MPG gain going to the new truck. Average mileage in a year is 15,000 and let's say gas is an average of $3 per gallon. That'd be 1000 gallons used at 15 MPG or 833.33 gallons at 18 MPG. $3 per gallon means that 15 MPG would cost you $3000 annually and 18 MPG would be $2499.99. That $500.01 difference divided by 12 means the total fuel savings for a 3 MPG gain is $41.67 per month. Not impressive. Run the same numbers at $5 a gallon and it's a $833.35 annual savings for a whipping $69.45 per month savings. How many years do you have to drive it for those fuel savings to come close to breaking even on the price of a new vehicle?

I say again; Not impressive enough.

I was under the impression the 5.3 and 6.2 use the same lifters. Unless you mean he got the TT 2.7 I4, in which case I question why he needs a truck.

He has the 5.3, but he said that the 5.3 guys aren't having issues with the lifters. If they are the same, that might be the issue. GM cheaped out instead of designing something to work at the higher level of a bigger engine.

Nobody is buying the 2022 Tundra for the gas savings alone. And do you also really think the EPA tests trucks with larger tires and mods? Unless you have another source for testing, the EPA combined number for Gen 2.5 is 14 mpg. That is a fact.

EPA numbers are estimates. That is a fact. Also, which is of more value; the EPA estimate or the real world data? IIRC fuelly puts the 5.7 somewhere between 15-16?

Let's go ahead and assume the EPA is infallible, incorruptible, and has no agenda to skew anything. The 2.5 gen gets 14 combined and the 3rd gen gets what?
