So I have 31k on the clock now and the blower motor has been failing for the last 4K miles or so. Naturally every time I bring it to the dealer they can’t relocate the problem. Well it completely died the other day and I got about halfway to the dealer before it kicked on and another 15 minutes later the helicopter noise went away. Warranty is up and a few days and it’s an hour drive to the dealer so I’m just going to replace it myself as my time is worth more than that drive.

I ordered a cheap replacement on Amazon for 35 bucks or so, as I can’t imagine it’s any worse than what’s in there…

    Anyone else having this problem?

has anyone else replaced their blower motor with an aftermarket unit and have any opinions?

I ordered a cheap one on Amazon and it literally lasted less than a week. I just went ahead and bought one from advanced auto parts that had a lifetime warranty. It made replacement super easy even while traveling. It's held up great and it's been a year so far.

Also if you want to get toyotas extended warranty it'd be worthwhile to do it before your warranty is up, because I believe once your warranty is up you can't get their extended warranty

Well, here’s a quick update on this:

It took all of 5 minutes and a flathead screwdriver to replace the blower motor. The new $35 unit from Amazon seems to be working fine for now. If this one craps out I’ll take sumo91’s advice and get one from auto one.

Yeah it’s an issue with these trucks. I put three Toyota ones in my last truck. It just went out in my current one so I tried an oriley one. I noticed it blows harder which I don’t mind a bit.

Yes. . My 19 worked intermittently and would make some God awful noises but everytime I could get to the dealer, it was fine. Ended up trading for my 21 and its doing the exact same thing. It HAS to be fairly common if both tundras I've owned did it. . . The dealership ofcourse says "no, we've never seen any issues like that.".

This is EXACTLY what was happening so I gave up and bought a replacement.

Haven't I read somewhere that some people have replaced it with a Sequoia blower motor and it was stronger?

Question for you guys. I think my blower motor is failing but I’m not 100 certain of the symptoms. My AC/heat fan speed will be all the way up (auto on) but it’s not blowing very hard, then all of a sudden, it will kick in full blast and then tapper off a bit then go full blast. Overall fan speed seem very inconsistent with what the display says. More lately I have heard the helicopter noise mentioned above. The other night I thought there may be a kids toy left in the cup holder that was tetter tottering but it went away when I turned off the air. Should I bite the bullet and get a new blower motor or take it to the shop for true diagnosis.

New owner of a 2013 Double cab. I am glad that I ran into this thread. My motor is not making a noise but the volume of air is very low. I have had three Tacoma’s and an 2005 Tundra and those blowers seemed to make more noise and blow more air.

Blower motors are relatively cheap and IIRC they do fail somewhat more than average. Kinda depends on usage I would imagine. Personally, I only run mine around 40-60% of capacity most times.

Sounds a lot like the blower motor issue I was having. It’s something 35 bucks for part and 5 minutes to replace. I would just replace it if I were you.

It could be going bad, they blow pretty hard when they are working properly.

Yeah, I'd say blower motor for sure. Mine wasn't making noise this time, either. Pretty much what yours is doing.

I feel a lot better after reading these posts! Thank you all. I thought I was going nuts a 2019 with AC blower motor problems already but I’m in the exact same boat with my 2019! Can anyone confirm the resistor is built into the blower motor or is it somewhere separate under the dash?.

    Thank you all very much!

EXACT same issue! These posts have been a huge help! Thank you all love this forum. Hope anyone with these issues got squared away, and I’ve learned a new blower motor is what I need. Thank you!

Someone mentioned using the landcruiser blower, it fits and is made better than what's in our trucks.

Doing good now. On my third one now decided to buy genuine Toyota. When I replaced the blower motor the first time, I bought the cheap Amazon one that only lasted about 4 months. This current one made it through the AZ summer and is still working great. Just had my whole HVAC system serviced at local dealer yesterday too, and put a K&N cabin filter in. Fingers crossed it'll be set as it's starting to warm up here already. Thanks all and drive safe.

Rumor has it the LC 200 blower motor is a direct swap and is a brushless version that should have a much longer lifespan.
