bumping an old thread, but I just installed the 8600 in mind '21. I hvae none of the 'lag' complained about earlier. It's sharp, responsive, and improves sound quality significantly over stock. Expensive, but seems worth it thus far, especially since Android Auto auto-reconnects when I start the car.

I feel like I'm the only one who isn't impressed with the after-market sound compared to the stock. ‍ It isn't bad, but I've lost the ability to control the sub independently like I could with the stock JBL unit - or at least it seems the sub is overall mixed into the rest of the speakers and less of a driving force.

Overall I'm super happy with the unit and would take it any day over the stock HU for the wireless Car Play alone.

You can control the sub independently in the audio menus. Getting a good EQ, fixing the right rear sub crossover, and then adjusting the output volume for the sub should make you pretty happy - and it's all done with the menus. You can even get fancy with time delay and listening position if you really want to geek out. Same menus that pioneer has used for years and years.

Has anyone installed the Pioneer DMH-WT8600 in a 2019 Tundra? I have spent 2 weeks working with Maestro and Crutchfield on getting the rear view camera to work and am about to throw in the towel. I have tried multiple harnesses, radios and maestros. I can actually get the camera to work as a secondary camera, but when plugged into the rear view RCA jack it doesn't show a picture. Funny if I play with the RCA jack (of which, I have had 3 different copies of the harness to make sure it wasnt the harness and even hardwired one myself), it shows a bit of a scrambled picture. It is madness. I saw one post where someone with a 2017 tundra said pioneer is not compatible with the Tundra stock camera. Any thoughts or ideas?

That looks so great. You wouldn’t happen to have any installation pics would you? I love how close you have it mounted to the dash/trim kit. I tried getting my 7600 that close and after a lot of attempts I finally gave up saying “this is impossible.” But your pics say otherwise and are taunting me. I would love to know how it was mounted.

I used the stock brackets. Drill holes to adjust the depth.

I slid in a cut piece of the Metra Dash trim kit to fill in the gap.

You can go even more flush if you don't mind the slight gap on the sides. Like this it's nearly completely flush. Drill the holes on the bracket a little further back so the unit goes in deeper and don't use any fill pieces. I actually liked this better and am keeping it this way.

That is incredibly screwy - sorry you're having to go through all that.

In my 2021, which I imagine would not be too dissimilar, it was plug and plug. Had crutchfield do the harness to save me a step, and it was truly painless. Backup camera works properly as it should with my 8600nex.

    Awesome install!

Were you able to use the factory mic or did you have to run one specific to the HU?

On my 2017, I do not have this completely installed yet but I plugged everything in to test everything, and the backup camera works when I’m in reverse. The picture is really low res and grainy but it works and was plug and play. Sorry you are having trouble. Have you tried testing it with a different camera to rule out a Tundra wire/camera issue?

Can anyone point out where the vss wire is on tundra. Getting speed sensors wire disconnect issue with apple car play. My maestro should take care of it but doesn’t

I am not sure which wire it is on the tundra side, but check the pink wire connection between the maestro and Pioneer.

Yeah that pink wire connection looks good, but still get the error so was trying to find where the VSS wire is on 2019 tundra so I can just hard wire in to it. I can’t find a wiring diagram anywhere and most of the forums reference older models that have a green wire with orange stripe, which I do t have

8600NEX has a new firmware update. Has anyone installed?

I’m scared it will strip the video in motion bypass

I updated tonight. I was able to use the browser and play youtube while in drive and idling up my driveway.

So you can confirm the video in motion bypass is still active after updating ?

I see this is an old post, but maybe you'll see it. You can also add a bass knob if you're using an aftermarket amp (with bass knob availability). It makes a huge difference.

I can't seem to get Netflix to work (I assume it isn't the head unit), but YouTube works fine.

Just had the 7600 installed on Friday. Got it any Best Buy and they had free install. Note: you get what you pay for :censored:. Not so pleased with the install but I really like the HU so far.

question: phone audio on the other end isn’t so great. People tell me that the sound is not nearly as good as phone calls on the stock unit. The installer put the mic on the top right corner of the windshield with double sided tape. I can’t help but think that is part of the problem. He said that was as far as it would reach. Where do y’all have the mic installed? How’s the quality for you?

    thanks in advance!

I have the mic where the windshield meets the console. I too have been told that it isn't as clear as the factory unit. However making a call using Carplay is more clear than a call using just the Bluetooth.
One issue I have had is the wireless carplay connectivity. Some days it is flawless and other days it drops the WIFI connection for no apparent reason. Connecting via the USB is flawless so far but defeats the purpose of having wireless and a wireless charger.

I have mine in the upper left corner of the windshield. Don't think there is anyway to make it sound as good on the other end as the factory mic. Using android auto connected via Bluetooth is the same.

    Yes it was.

Have you had any issues with wireless carplay dropping out randomly? I have an Iphone XR with the IOS 15. Maybe it is an iPhone thing.

I’ve not had it long. But so far it’s worked really well. I’m having trouble playing video via hdmi. And have the mic issues but otherwise it’s been perfect. I’ve got an iPhone XS Max with the latest software and the firmware update on the Pioneer.

I ran my 7600 mic to the factory mic hole above the sunglass holder. I simply moved the factory mic out of the way and put a dab of hot glue to hold the new one in its place behind the tiny grill. I have been told the audio quality is fine on the receiving end.
