To OffRoaders - Seeking Advice - 2.5 Gen & prior versus the New Gen 3.0 Tundra

    So I am of the opinion that the Open C box rear end on my 2018 Tundra, keeps the rear tires on mother earth for longer than a fully boxed rear end. My Tundra feels planted to the ground on trails better than any other vehicle I have owned, you just need to be wary of how big it is 8^0.

    I have watched the videos of testers going over the logs on the Toyota test trails with the new Tundra, and I am astounded at how easy it is to get a rear tire kissing the air.

    I think when Toyota chose the fully boxed rear, they were forced to add the rear diff lock. The A Trac system no longer cut it ? Again just my opinion. i have never needed a rear diff lock and in the past Toyota used to boast about the open C box and its advantages. Especially for ride comfort due to the flex.

    What say you? Enlighten me.
    Appreciate your opinions.

    You’re seeing the ‘22’s tire up in the air because the stock suspension has very little travel. Has nothing to do with the boxed frame.

    If you have never needed a rear diff lock you've never really been off road.

    I think they added diff lock because everybody else offers it already.

    The worst that it is has gotten for me is in the spring. I have hit spots where I am in mud up to the axle few times.
    Maybe where frost is coming up and I break through also.
    Low range always got me out.
    So let me ask another way. If you do not engage the rear diff on the 2022 Tundra - which stock suspension do you think will do better on those logs on two TRD Offroad versions ? A gen 2.5 or Gen 3.0 ..The same?

    Similarly equipped (2.5 vs 3) the 3 will walk all over it in the off-road trim. To get all the benefits of the new system your going to need a lift, new tires, and better approach angle bumpers, but you needed those anyways on the 2.5g

    Eibach Pro Truck Stage 2 suspension, HD RAS, 285/75-18 Nokian Outpost AT, LoPro bed cover, TRD rear sway bar, DD 10 inch exhaust, and various other goodies
    coil spring suspensions rock for off road use, easy to mod, usually better suspension travel and ride on and off road.
