Just wanted to point out that there is a firmware update v2.0 out now. I connected with CarAVAassist app and it uploaded the firmware to the HU and updated. The update has some new features and says fixes some issues. The CarAVAssist app itself is awful and not easy to use, it keeps crashing on my new iPhone.

    https://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Support/Downloads

So far, have not noticed any good or bad about the firmware update.

Did you run an hdmi from the unit to a new plug? Trying to figure out the best way to ply video on mine.

Just got this HU, along with the Maestro.

I have ordered the Metra dash kit, the TO2 harness, and the antenna adapter.

I’d there anything else I need?

And- are there any good walkthrough threads or videos? All I see on YouTube are installs on other vehicles

Did you take any installation pics or notes? I am installing in my 18 non-jbl this week and would love to make the process faster.

So tell me about getting to and using the trucks features and settings? Is it still possible to view the maint. reminders, the fuel mileage in ECO and other things?

You can get to all the settings and stuff. I think all you give up is the reminder screen from Entune and the nav pop up and compass on the dash.

Frustratingly, during the flashing process of the Maestro adapter (flashing this unit creates the compatibility between your vehicle and your chosen aftermarket head unit) I learned that I also needed a USB adapter and a satellite radio adapter.

Posting my questions in threads that were literally titled as installation threads for this Pioneer head unit has netted exactly zero responses. I will share my start to finish installation experience on another thread and provide a link here:

@OGDark Knight - how are reverse lines adjustable? Do the reverse lines move when wheel is turned to show where truck will go?

Oh no, not like that with the steering wheel. In the settings you can adjust the grid that shows up stationary.

Gotcha! Thanks for all your posts on the 8600 NEX. I'm gonna go back and read them. Can you post pic of the reverse screen?

This one shows a custom screen with 3 panels that includes trans temp, rear cam, and current media.

Thanks for posting @panicman - do you have the option to go full screen while in reverse?

When you shift to reverse it automatically goes full screen.

Also, from the custom 3panel screen panicman has shown, it will go full screen from there by touching the camera view panel.

I do- I tried earlier but the site was acting whacky.

    Here you go

Notice the button at top left that allows you to adjust the grid lines.

Much. The physical volume knob, and especially, the physical camera button were game changers. Plus with the Kenwood, the front camera comes on automatically when you go slow enough. With the Pioneer my front camera was useless unless I wanted to click through menus to get to it.

8600NEX fade issue, every time I turn the vehicle off it reset the fade to 0, the center of the vehicle?

2016 Sequoia with JBL, I installed the Idatalink Maestro RR2 T02 with the unit. Bought from Crutchfield.

No issues with the install or flashing of the Maestro. I noticed the issue right away, reflashed the Maestro, updated the firmware of the 8600, issue continued.

I had Crutchfield send me a replacement unit, swapped it out and reflashed the Maestro, same problem.

Maestro engineers are researching the issue.

Has anyone else come across this problem; fade resetting to 0 (middle of vehicle) every time the vehicle is turned off?

You can't compare mainstream units to Android based ones. 2 different worlds. Android based head units do a ton more. But no matter how good they are they're quirky and not great for average users. I have had many of each and currently have a Kenwood DMX1057XR in my Tundra and an Android unit in my Civic. If the Android unit was as polished and as high quality as the Kenwood it'd be the way to go.... But they're just not. The sound quality, if you have a high end system, isn't the same. They crash here and there. Sometimes my phone just won't connect. Etc. I've dealt with the same "quirks" through 4-5 different Android head units.

I had the Pioneer from this thread in my Tundra along with a high end system and it was great. However my Pioneer was actually defective and I returned it and got a Dasaita. Within an hour I ordered the Kenwood based on sound quality alone. Not to say it was bad on the Dasaita... But you could definitely tell the difference.

Would you say the difference in quality merits the significant price difference?

If you spend thousands and thousands of dollars on amps, speakers, wiring, electrical, etc... It is. In my Civic with a little budget system, it's not.
