I have a 2017 Tundra SR5. It originally had the halogen headlights and the amber halogen DRL. I couple months back I bought the Morimoto XB 2nd gen headlights. As soon as I installed them the 15amp fuse under my dash for my taillights, park lights, fog lights and license plate lights blew. It blew every time I turned the headlights on. I contacted Headlight Revolution who referred me to the manufacturer. I've spent the last several weeks trouble shooting with Morimoto. Since my truck had the originally had the amber daytime halogen running lamp or was recommended I get the DRL delete relay. I did, and installed it with no luck. I did not have the turn signal adapter installed (the instructions said I didnt need them). I was told that was the problem and to install the adapter. After I installed the adapter the taillight fuse did not blow but the 15amp turn/hazard fuse in the fuse box blew. The turn/hazard fuse blows every time I use the turn signal when I have the adapter connected. I took the truck to the dealership who said they believe the short is in the headlight. Of course they would say that. This morning the Morimoto CS rep told me to try each light individually and see if one light is causing the blown fuse. Each light, individually caused the fuse to blow. When the adapter wasn't hooked up the fuse under the dash blew, when the adapter was hooked up the fuse in the fuse box blue. I am beyond frustrated at this point. I can't figure out what is wrong. Has anyone had this problem? If so, how did they fix it? I've seen some similar past posts but nothing exactly what I'm going through.

What did Morimoto say after you confirmed each light was blowing the fuse individually? Try asking for replacements?

I wrote them and let them know they are blowing the fuse individually. I haven't gotten a reply yet. I didn't get good vibes in previous replies so I'm hoping they work with me. I'll definitely update with whatever response I get.

    I dont have Morimoto headlights

I have Alpharex in my wife’s sequoia

I encountered a blown fuse situation, and kept blowing headlight fuses immediately upon turning on the headlights

After troubleshooting it was found that I had the plugs connected backwards and had reverse polarity

I turned the plugs 180 degrees then reconnected them, replaced the fuses and never had any more issues

Maybe the info helps you troubleshoot.

And this is exactly why I'm scared to death to take a chance on aftermarket headlights.

On my 2nd Gen I had to replace the 3amp fuse in the morimoto harness with a 10 amp no blown fuses anymore. Headlight Revolution rep advised me to do that.

The connectors are configured in a way that they only plug in a certain way. So I'm assuming they are not reversed. The fuse tap is the only harness with an additional fuse. It has two 10amp fuses in it already. So far no reply from Morimoto. Hopefully I'll hear something Monday.

I did buy from headlight revolution. I contacted them first and was referred to Morimoto. I've had a thread open with Morimoto ever since.

Morimoto just got back to me this morning. They said I must have a "incompatibility" issue with my Tundra and their headlights. They said it's likely my turn signal sockets need to be rewired. Keep in mind there were no issues to my lights previously to this one. I've never had any work done to my lighting system. The truck has about 24K miles so not a ton of wear and tear. So I highly doubt I have some turn signal socket problem. Morimoto said I should contact Headlight Revolution, and look into a refund. I guess I have to see about that. What sucks the most is the XB lights looked great!! I wish they would have worked out.

I've reached out to Headlight Revolution via email. Just waiting for a reply now. I'll call tomorrow if I don't hear anything.

I have some XB hybrids in my cart for the wife’s 4Runner but stories like these keep me from pulling the trigger. Even with 25% off and free shipping.

Hopefully you’re able to get it refunded
I have these on my wife's 4R that came with halogens and they worked perfectly. So great that I almost pulled the trigger to replace my OEM LEDs. ALMOST...

Headlight Revolution also has a Tundra forum account, they’ve always replied back to me very promptly

I wanted to change colors on my BF order and they had it done within an hour of sending my message on here

With so many "rave reviews" (including my own with mains and fogs), it really bothers me to see a lack of action when there are issues, especially right out of the box.

C'mon reputable retailer. Make a sad customer smile and you'll earn 10 more... Or are there just too many customers with free money burning a hole thru their pockets to provide even basic customer support.

The customer is after all the reason for your existence.. And dinner.. And cars, And house.. ex-wives.. Etc........

The customer service for both Morimoto and Headlight Revolutions is pretty questionable for me right now. When I emailed Headlight Revolutions on Monday 11/29/21, I forwarded all of the emails between myself and Morimoto. The Morimoto customer service guy Travis decided to reply again, noticing I forwarded Headlight Revolutions the email thread, making sure I understand he thinks I'm doing something wrong. He said there must be something wrong with what I'm doing or the wiring with my Tundra. I am absolutely 100% sure I followed the directions correctly. I did take the Tundra to the dealership and they are saying it's the headlights so I have no clue what to do. Headlight Revolutions has not replied to the email. I called and after being on hold for 20 minutes I was told by their automated service to leave a voicemail and they would call me back. So far no call back yet. I am so frustrated with both Morimoto and Headlight Revolutions at this point. The headlights look GREAT!! They are a HUGE improvement over my stock headlights. I honestly don't want to get rid of them. But blowing fuses isn't acceptable. Despite how they look, if I can't use them, they are worthless.

Uggh. Not great to hear, but hopefully HR will come to their senses and swap the headlights out for you.

It's just not right to automatically assume that some one has screwed up the install, especially when the design (at least mine) is so fool-proof. I dont mind having to "customize" a bit while retrofitting, but my Morimoto headlights were a cake walk to install.

My money is on a fluke at the assembly plant where someone installed a wire harness backwards...although both headlights having this affliction is a bit suspect, but maybe the same guy assembled a few that way before being corrected.

This is not something I want to hear right now... had the gen 1's on my truck before it was wrecked and I ordered the gen 2's as the replacement. Haven't gotten my truck back yet but i hope I don't have this issue as well. I also have 2017 tundra.

My 2013 with XB LED headlights just blew the 3a fuse for the 1st time since I've owned them (6 mths)
Sounds like I need to put a 5a or 10a in.

Believe it or not, I still have not heard back from @Headlight Revolution. I have called and left a message along with an email two weeks ago. It's beyond ridiculous that neither they or Morimoto will stand behind what they sell or manufacture. I'm not even asking for a refund. Just exchange the lights. If a new pair will do the same thing, then maybe it is the my truck. I know I'm doing everything right. I'd be willing to drive to an authorized dealer/installer and see if it is something I am doing. If you look at my profile photo, you can see I have LED lights on the truck. Those are the 2018 LEDs I purchased from @Headlight Revolution. I replaced my stock halogen headlights with those. They come with a similar wiring harness and fuse tap. I wired them up with no issues. I'm out of options at this point.

You'd think if they knew it was an issue with 2017 trucks they should state that on the website. Hopefully I get my truck back soon and I can provide some input.

I've had the XB's on my 2020 for 16 months without a single issue. I ordered a set for the wife's 2020 4R. Sounds like a rare gremlin for the OP.

Hey there Eric! I'll start off this message with an apology for this situation, my role is Marketing so I am fairly disconnected when it comes to the customer service team. I used to be quite active in this forum for a couple of years back when I started the account, but since then I have grown to new responsibilities which has left it hard to find time to hop in here from time to time! A friend of mine on this forum actually notified me about this thread so that I could hop in here and help you out with all of this! However, that doesn't make up for anything on our customer service side of things - that is crazy to hear that it's been 2 weeks since your message was sent to us. We're responding to emails today within the same day we receive them, maybe there's an issue with the email address you sent it to? If anything, could you tell me what the email ticket is that you reached out on? I'd love to look into this myself to see what is going on there, and why you haven't gotten any replies in that time period.

Other than that part of things, I also wanted to talk with you about the headlight situation you have going on. It's my understanding that you've tried both keeping the harnesses/adapters in your truck & also removing them from the truck - both situations causing a fuse to blow. You also have the Non-DRL Relay installed under the Dash, is that correct?

You've done a lot of troubleshooting on your end and nothing has changed, so I would love to try replacing these headlights with a brand new pair to see if it's an internal error inside the Morimoto housing causing the fuses to pop. I understand that you do not have your OEM housings anymore to swap in for the time being, so I'm going to send out a new pair in the mail to you first. Once you receive those housings, swap them out with the defective set you have now and ship them back to us Via the Pre-Paid Return Label I will be emailing you. This way we can bench test these housings ourselves to see what the problem may be. This way we can confirm for a fact if the issue is housing-related, and you can try a fresh set out for yourself to see if your truck properly accepts them.

Once again, I sincerely apologize for the pain in the butt situation, and I really hope this route will solve your issues so that you'll have a turn-key set of housings on your truck like you should have had since day one!

Please DM me directly on here so that we can establish a private conversation to go over any details/further instructions with all of this.

Thank you Eric, we'll be in touch!
