I have a local dealer asking for my ‘19 TRD Pro. Offering $51k trade. I would be swapping it for a new SR5 (convenience pkg, no TRD packages).

They are saying I should trade in my Pro, take their incoming SR5, be early/first in line for their future allocation for the new TRD Pro. Saying I might actually make money on the deal. Hmmm.

I’m emotionally blinded and need feedback.

I WANT to believe I will come out ahead with this scheme, but another part of me says it’s too good to be true and a risk, stay where I am and wait until I can trade Pro for Pro (plus let some early owner feedback roll in).

    Help!

Is there still a lien on it? Are you financing new one?

Own my truck free and clear… probably 2-3k out of pocket for the swap

What’s driving the want / need for a trade? What’s wrong with the 19 pro that a 2022 SR5 will suffice?

Honestly OP, I would not give up a 2 year PRO for a 2022. Yeah they made it better in some ways but you have an awesome truck. I am not even looking at the from a financial sense…

But in the end you need to be happy…

I just sold my 19 platinum, went to the dealer and ended up at Carmax for more $$. They have a platinum long bed loaded on no. Hybrid showing up next month and I could grab it, debated doing it until the hybrid is available but after talking with the boss (wife), my dad and a buddy in the car biz it’s a risky risky move. If the market/ economy crashes you are SOL, if someone rear ends you- have fun with that and resale value/ parts availability, etc.

I’m sitting on a big chunk of cash from the sale of my vehicle and luckily have a spare truck to drive in the interim. You’ll be taking a risk if you decide to go this route, for me it wasn’t worth it.

Thank you all for the feedback. I’m leaning against making the swap as I really do love my truck.

The drive behind wanting to make a swap is… improved gas mileage, getting rid of the polyurethane steering wheel (I hate it), gaining a pano roof and vented seats. And the added/new safety/cameras doesn’t hurt. Driving a TRD Pro in and out of a daycare parking lot, I want to be omnipotent out there!!

Plus the chase for a new car/truck is like a drug to me. Love it.

You won't make money on the deal. If you want a new Pro, wait on the new Pro. My 2 cents.

I trade alot, too. . But I wouldn't trade on a truck that I knew I was gonna turn around and trade again. Just my opinion. You may not like the 22 as well after driving and then you've already dumped yours. Keep what you have until you can get your hands on the 22. If you gotta have it, then trade.

Talked to my “guy” who sold his Toyota dealerships the other day. He said he would take the gamble and buy a fully loaded out non hybrid and drive it till the hybrid comes out and sell it privately. With how many dealers are doing ADM you will make your money back and he mentioned if the miles are low, dealer trade might essentially be same as you paid.

I am still not taking the gamble though, playing it safe.

It's possible you make out, people do it all the time with high end sports cars. However, the flip usually occurs at the same time, not down the road. There is the possibility the dealer screws you and adds an ADM on the TRD Pro once it comes in.

Agreed, I appreciate all the feedback. I won't be doing the swap. Just got too antsy in the moment.
