20170507_103914.jpg I recently completed a trip to Panama City with my motorcycle. The motorcycle weighs 625 lbs. The carrier with upgrades weighs 125 lbs. There was approximate 400 lbs. in the bed and 800 lbs. IN THE DOUBLE CAB. I used tow/haul all the way there and back. You can see the truck squatting in the back. I had no issues and the extra slowing from the transmission really helped. How much weight should you have before engaging tow/haul mode?

A little of this and a little of that.
I use Tow/Haul anytime I wanna have fun or am towing. I wouldn't recommend loading down your truck that much, there is a Payload weight limit on DC's. Check the inside of your drivers door frame, it should tell you there as well as the owner's manual...

Good question. I towed my MX bike with my aluminum 2 place ATV trailer and was wondering if that was heavy enough to justify tow/haul.

I use it with my boat, but that's obviously heavier.

I use it for passing sometimes and merging on to the freeway where the ramp is short. I tow fairly frequently too. But if it's flat and I'm just cruising down the freeway while towing, I turn it off. I definitely use it on hills while towing, usually I have a total of roughly 4,500 lbs.

I wouldn't try it with any other truck. It was mostly highway driving. I didn't want to pull a trailer so that is why I bought and reinforced a carrier. I did load it up a do a test drive as I was a little concerned.

I don't know the weight but í wouldn't tow more than 2500lbs in six gear..I have played with the tow mode and it seems to turn off six gear, change the shift points on the trainny..it does make the truck more exciting to drive..so I'm assuming it triggers the vvt at very low rpm..my odessey had vtech when it kicked on it was on..

I've only used it when climbing mountains passes on I70. I don't tow anything.

It's never necessary to use it. The truck will haul and tow just fine without it. It can be used whenever you want. I think the recommendation is anything over 4,000 lbs. If you feel like your truck is bogging down when you are towing turn it on, it won't hurt anything, if you don't want to use it again it won't hurt anything.

A better question for me would be when do I not use it.

    Answer: When she is parked.

I agree, rule of thumb... anytime the truck is on, tow/haul is useful.

...unless you like to save your gas.

Hold the Line! If you are not holding the line, abandon your ship. Destruction is inevitable without more to hold the line!
All the time! Have I overloaded its payload capacity at some point? God I hope so.
IMO, If I cannot load at least 1500 pounds in my truck, I do not want it... Unless it is a show truck/race truck (oxymoron).
