Sorry got distracted by a clear night as I'm also an astronomy nerd Got some orders to ship out tomorrow and have to start the next batch as well.

So this is what I've been doing tonight. Bodes Galaxy aka M81, through my 5" SCT telescope during really crappy skies (clear but bad seeing conditions). Didn't plan on taking images tonight was just planning on getting my new guidescope working correctly but it all kinda worked out. Image isn't that great as the camera is meant for planets and not objects 12 million light years away (yup crazy as it sounds that galaxy is 12 million light years away from us at the speed of light ... crazy isn't it!) . Science is hard and astronomy gear is super expensive! I thought truck mods were $$$$ money!

That’s pretty awesome! When I saw 12mil light years away, I almost cried at the thought of the cost between scope and camera haha.

 

After seeing this I can’t believe you aren’t charging $200 a switch plate

 

Went to Dexter School growing up. You ever been down there to check out their telescope? You can access it via the internet too (I believe control it, also.. I think..??)

 

No haven't been down that way in a long time. After doing a bit of research though it looks like just about every college & private school around here (and there are tons) has an observatory or at least an astronomy program.

Just joined a local club not too far away in Westford that is on the grounds of the MIT Haystack Observatory (couple big radio telescopes).

 

Well the next batch will be delayed by at least another day. Not sure why this happened but when I went out to check on the printer and I just had a big glob of molten plastic moving around.

Running a test print now and so far it looks good so this was hopefully just a fluke.

 

That sucks. Can I “thumbs down” a post?

 

Luckily I caught it early. Wouldn't want to see the mess if I had left it going for 10 hours!

 

10hrs? I know nothing about this kind of printing. How long did the printer take to make these panels?

 

A batch of 4 is a little over 10 hours total printing time.

Ok quick update. Test prints worked fine so we should be good to go again. Wasn't able to get anything done today as I was escorting Santa and his merry gang of elves around town .

I plan on starting the next batch in the morning so hopefully by Tuesday the next 2 batches will be ready to ship. There is 1 spot left in the 2nd batch I'll be printing if anyone is interested.

what’s the best way to finish this? Just sand it? Or put a filler on it and then sand and paint it?

@abomb60 Sorry for your loss. As a volunteer FFII, I know what you have seen and how tight the community is. You will get through it my man. My Platinum didn't come with a card slot but when I find a new shifter surround I will get on your list for a plate to move my switches.

Just got my switches and window harness extension ordered.

 

The original person selling one of these was doing it through Facebook. Last winter he was having some printer issues and got sick and wasn’t selling them for a few months. So I designed my own (similar but different) and printed it.
Fast forward to a few months ago, someone was looking for one and the other guy was having printer issues again. I had my STL file, but it’s a work printer. @abomb60 offered to start printing and selling them, and here we are!
