First time poster, long time visitor…

I’ve searched the forums but I can’t find a solution to my problem.
I installed a Pioneer 4660 NEX head unit and a Metra universal license plate backup camera in my Tundra yesterday.
The head unit (with installed Maestro) switches to camera view when I shift into reverse but I get no video.

The Metra camera RCA cable is two parts that are mated about 3’ from the rear bumper. The line coming from the camera has the red/black wire that I spliced into the right rear backup light using t-tap connectors. The long portion of the RCA cable has a single red power line coming out of the RCA jack. Instructions for the camera seemed vague at best, but I thought only one red positive wire needed to be spliced in for the camera to have power and function? Did I also have to splice in the red positive wire at the RCA end into the purple/white reverse wire behind the Pioneer head unit?

I’m dreading tearing the dash out (again) simply to splice in one stinking wire, but if that’s what I have to do, it’s what I have to do.

Anyone else run into this? It shouldn’t be that difficult. Instructions for this stuff are TERRIBLE! Im a fairly handy guy that does most of my own repairs, and I’ve been known to do my own mechanical and electrical work on my plane, but this camera makes no sense. You’d think splicing into the reverse backup light would provide power the entire length of the RCA cable running to the camera. Seems silly that each end of the cable would need to be tapped into a power source as the RCA is fully capable of carrying 12v the entire length.

    Thanks in advance!
